Bernice FISK Obituary
FISK, Bernice Lorraine (DeVoe) (Age 89) July 9, 1931 - March 25, 2021 Bernice Lorraine (DeVoe) Fisk passed away on Thursday, March 25, 2021 in Medical Lake, Washington. Bernice was born on July 9, 1931 in Spokane to Urgel DeVoe and Fannie Frances (Harms) DeVoe. Always an Eastern Washington girl, Bernice met and married her husband, Harry Vernon Fisk in 1949. Bernice and Harry had seven children, five sons and two daughters. They lived in Spokane for most of their married life in a little house on Gordon Avenue. Later after the kids grew up and moved on, Bernice and Harry moved to Ione, Washington. Harry passed away in 1998 and Bernice continued to live in the woods with her dog and the local wildlife. Later, Bernice moved back to Spokane to be near her family. In her early years, she worked as an elevator operator at JC Penny. She also opened the lettering shop for Kimmel Athletic where she was responsible for all the athletic uniforms for local and nearby schools, Spokane Youth Soccer Association and the Spokane Indians Baseball team. She always had a smile for anyone she came in contact with. She also started her own company "Passing Wind" where she made banners and flags for parades and for the small town of Ione. One of her greatest joys was to make the flag of Pend Oreille County which still hangs in our state capital in Olympia. She loved making windsocks and giving them away. Her banner for "Down River Days" hung across the street in Ione Washington for many years. Bernice had a wicked sense of humor and Halloween was her favorite holiday. She loved collecting witches of every sort. She also loved to bowl, sew and garden. Many of her family have treasured quilts that she made. Bernice could make you laugh by saying what everyone thought but were afraid to say. She had a gift of making these observations funny and lighthearted. During the pandemic, Bernice put her sewing skills to work and helped make over 2,000 masks which were donated to the community. Bernice was clearly loved by her family and her friends, and she loved each and every one of them. Bernice was preceded in death by her husband, Harry, her sons, David, Kenneth, and Donald. She is survived by her children, Pamela Jahn, Terri Garpestad (Bruce), Steven Fisk (Julie), Douglas Fisk (Sam), Lynda Anderson Fisk (daughter-in-law) and Kathi Fisk (daughter-in-law). Bernice leaves behind a legacy of 16+ grandchildren and 20+ great-grandchildren and four+ great-great-grandchildren along with countless friends. There will be an outdoor celebration of life later this summer. Contact family for information. In lieu of flowers, a donation to The Salvation Army in Bernice's honor would be greatly appreciated.
