Dan MACKEY Obituary

MACKEY, Dan Dan passed away very unexpectedly on March 10, 2021 at home. He was born in Spokane on November 2, 1946 to Dick and Harriet Mackey. Graduated from Shadle Park High School in 1965. Attended one year of college in Yakima. Dan was a weekend warrior for the Air National Guard Reserves. He worked at Continental Kitchens until July 1977 when he became the proud owner of Snoops Saloon. He enjoyed every single day and worked 7 days a week for several years. After 40 years, in 2017 he sold to his son Austin and retired, well tried to retire. He absolutely could not stay away. He was always dropping in to offer advice, help, or anything he could. He was a real people person and had many good old buddies, to many to mention but you know who you are. Dan loved to go fishing and snow skiing with the prime timers on Mount Spokane. He also enjoyed Harley rides. Preceded in death by his Dad, Mom, first wife Paula, and brother-in- law Jim Moe. Survived by his wife Darlene, three sons David, Austin and Bryan; sister Linda, five grandkids Talon, Kostin, Brooke, Connor, and Camden; two nieces Amy and April, one nephew Jeff, four great-nephews Parker, Mason, Turner, and one great-niece Kinsley. Due to the Covid restrictions a memorial will be at a future date.

i knew Dan from the time I was 12 years old, babysat his son, worked at Snoops for over ten years, him and Dar were one of the first to know I was having a baby. He was always happy, joking and treated people kindly. He and Dar went above and beyond for me and my son. I don't believe I have ever met anyone that was always cheerful like Dan was. My prayers and sympathies for Dar and Sons. Your in my prayers!! So sorry for your loss!

Dan took me to the Shadle Sr. Prom in 1965. He drove me home from school a few times in his beautiful cadillac. He is one of the sweetest guys I've ever known. After I moved to San Francisco, he wrote me a couple letters while in the Guard but we lost touch and went our separate ways. I know his community and family will miss him greatly and I wish him great peace. " . . . out of a misty dream our path emerges for a while then closes within a dream . . ." Peace, Leslie Kay

I met Dan in the 1970s I lived in the trailer court next to Snoops and became my favorite tav. I had spent some time at his place on the River and we were Primetimers at Mt Spokane. I will miss my skiing buddy.
