Daniel NELSON Obituary

Daniel Arthur Nelson, aged 65, was born in Spokane, WA on July 23, 1956. He passed away on September 27, 2021, due to COVID pneumonia. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Larry and Evalyn Nelson, and sister, Ardelle McGinnis.

Dan was born & raised in Spokane, WA. Following graduation from University High in 1975, Dan enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was subsequently stationed at Whidbey Island N.A.S. and deployed aboard the aircraft carrier USS Constellation CV-64. He served 8 years and was discharged. After a couple of years, he re-enlisted for an additional hitch and returned to N.A.S. Whidbey.

He joined the Army National Guard based at Mann Hall in Spokane in 2002. He was called up and deployed to Bagdad, Iraq from 2004 to 2005. He finished his military active and reserve service in 2008. Later he worked at the V.A. Hospital in Spokane as a hospital service's employee to complete his retirement.

He was a CDL freight driver, concrete mixer truck driver, and an airport operations employee. Dan was dedicated in his commitment to those in need through his involvement with the charities listed below. He was also a founding member of the WHEN Fellowship Worship Group.

Dan is survived by his son, Daniel Nelson Jr.; brothers, Richard Sherwood and John (Linda) Nelson; sister, Diane (Kevin) O'Neall; his aunt Sherry Nelson and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Thank you for teaching me how to drive ! Your old ford pick up with three on the tree was difficult and left me feeling like I could drive anything . Driving around the old seaplane base off road trails was not something mom would have done with me :)

Dan was my step dad and always had a willingness to step forward in our lives . He was hard working , fun and had a great smile . I´m so thankful to have read that he was so active in his church . Until we meet again
