Darrel MONASMITH Obituary
June 15, 1936 - February 17, 2024
Darrel L. Monasmith, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, played his "last round of golf" on February 17, 2024, at the age of 87.
Darrel was born in Yakima on June 15, 1936, to Lloyd "Spark" and Dorothy Monasmith. Darrel "Hoot", and his four siblings spent their formative years in Kennewick, Washington. Being the oldest was a thankless job, but Darrel was up to the challenge & led a ragtag gang, "The 6th Street Bombers", made up of his siblings & neighborhood friends, through a childhood of mischievous antics and adventures. They would fondly reminisce about this throughout their lives.
Darrel graduated from Kennewick High School & Washington State University with a degree in Business Administration.
It was in 1972 at Sherwood and Roberts, Inc., where Darrel met the love of his life and future wife, Lauri. He finished his career as Vice President in charge of Residential Construction lending at Banner Bank in 2003, & loved his job so much he often remarked that, "every Monday was like the first day of school."
He had a lifelong passion for golf, running, fishing, reading by the pool, traveling to Palm Springs, Hawaii and The Oregon Coast. He was also an enthusiastic WSU football and Gonzaga basketball fan.
Darrel is proceeded in death by his father, Lloyd, his mother, Dorothy, and his brother, Jim.
Darrel is survived by his wife of 50 years, Lauri; his daughters, Macie and Abby (Matt); as well as grandchildren, Hailey (Nick), Ava-Grace, Liam and Milo; great-granddaughters, Felicity and Lennox; brothers, Dar and Jerry, and his "sis", Cheryl.
Darrel will be greatly missed by all those who were lucky enough to have been a part of his life. He was deeply devoted to his faith, his family and his friends. His smile, infectious laugh and sense of humor will be forever remembered and cherished.
Services to be held at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 330 E. Boone Ave., Spokane, WA., on June 8, 2024, at 11:00, with a 1 PM Celebration of Life at Jack & Dan's Bar & Grill, 1226 N. Hamilton St., Spokane, WA.
