Donald LUST Obituary

LUST,
Donald C.

Lifelong Endicott farmer, passed away Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at the Whitman Health and Rehab Center in Colfax. He was 82. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, September 18th at 11:00 am at Trinity Lutheran Church in Endicott. Burial will follow at the Endicott Cemetery. Viewing will be Monday from 9 to 4 at Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax and also for one hour prior to services in Endicott. Don was born on the family farm between Lancaster and St. John on May 4, 1930 to Carl and Catherine Smick Lust. He graduated from the St. John High School in 1947 and attended college for a year. Don was drafted into the U.S. Marine Corps and served in San Diego before he was honorably discharged and returned to the family farm. He met Jacqueline Gillett of Port Townsend, WA while she was attending college in Pullman. They married June 25, 1955 in Port Townsend and soon settled on the family farm about two miles west of Winona. They raised their family on the farm and spent their lives working side by side on the land. They raised grain and cattle and after retirement Don said he missed the cows the most. They moved into Endicott in 1994. Don was always active in the community and could be counted on to "take care of anything". He was always helping with his church, Trinity Lutheran, or assisting an older person in need. He enjoyed gardening, sports of all types, wood-working and golf. He held many offices in his church over the years, served on the school board, was a fire commissioner for Fire District 6, was on the Whitman County School Re-Organization Board, the Whitman County Open Space Committee, the ASC County Committee, a member of the Winona Grange and past member of Jay-Cee's. He helped start the Endicott Community Club and was instrumental in starting "grandparents" day at the school. His family was also very important to him and he was proud of all of them. Don and Jackie moved to The Courtyard in Colfax in January 2011. He leaves behind his wife of 57 years, Jackie, at home in Colfax; four children, Michael and Kathy Lust of Republic, WA, Dwight and Julie Lust of Endicott, Dori and Joel Aune of North Bend, WA and Annie and Mark Alvick of Vancouver, WA; 12 grandchildren, one great-grandson and his sister, Dorothy Lust also of Vancouver. Don was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Laurn Lust and a sister, June Cason. The family suggests memorial gifts be made to Friends of Hospice, Trinity Lutheran Church, or the Endicott/St. John Schools Foundation.
