Donald TOMSHA Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Donald L. Tomsha on May 16, 2025, at the age of 79. He peacefully passed away at home surrounded by family with his beloved Mariners playing on the television in the background. Known for his quick wit and "Donisms" – little sayings that were uniquely his and always on target, he was an avid hunter and car buff given the name of "Crankshaft" by his friends.

Don was born on April 14, 1946, in Chewelah, Washington, the fourth of four children born to Andrew and Catherine Tomsha. He grew up in Valley, Washington and spent much of his youth on the Mally family farm on Jumpoff Joe Lake where he learned to work hard, fix things and love the outdoors. He attended Jenkins High School in Chewelah, Washington, graduating in 1965.

He began a career as an RV mechanic in 1969, spending 39 years in the field before retiring in 2008.

In 1969, he married his first wife, Gayle, with whom he had three children.

He lived most of his adult life in Spokane. He moved to Pullman after he met his second wife, Jackie, because the long-distance telephone calls were getting too expensive. They moved back to Spokane in 1992 where they lived until his passing.

Don is survived by his wife of 34 years, Jackie Tomsha; three children, Jody McCormick (Brad), Carrie Horstketter (Hans) and Donny Tomsha (Carrie); and two stepsons, David Cox and Samuel Cox; four grandchildren, Gavin, Ashley, Nonica and Molly; one great-grandchild, Alex; and many friends and extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents; and three siblings, Alice, Robert and Caroline.

Those who knew Don will remember his sense of humor and his strong views on everything from politics to what's for dinner.

Don will be laid to rest in God's country on June 14, 2025, at St. Joseph Cemetery at Jumpoff Joe Lake. There will be an informal graveside gathering at 10:30 am.
