Doug was my Geography teacher at Cottesmore and sparked the interest in climbing in Derbyshire during my teen years,I followed most of his climbing achievements over the years and still have a framed signed poster of Doug standing on top of Mount Everest,He was also a friend of my late Brother Phil who was also a good climber.Doug's work for the local people in the Himalayas i'm sure will go on, he was a great human being and may he Rest in Peace.

You gave me great inspiration Doug. I used the determination I saw in you and your expeditions. My expedition wasn’t climbing but construction which gave me great success.
Thanks for showing me the right direction and for the privilege of having you as a great teacher at Cottesmore school between 1963 and 1966.
It’s time to rest now Doug! Thanks for the knowledge.

He inspired me to attempt climbing Mount Everest ten years ago. I didn't succeed but I still feel like I accomplished something anyway. I'll always remember his bravery and fierce survival skills, he really changed mountain climbing for the better. May God bless his family and give them hope and peace during this difficult time. He was a true pioneer and will never be forgotten.
