HANFORD, Eleanor Johanna (Emtman)

Passed away August 19, 2018 at Providence Sacred Heart in Spokane, Washington from age related causes. Eleanor was born September 25, 1930 in Spokane, WA to Henry and Charlotte Emtman. She was raised on the family farm outside Fairfield, WA and graduated from Fairfield High School. After high school, she went on to attend Washington State College before marrying William A. Thomas in 1951. They lived on a cattle ranch outside of Starbuck, WA and Eleanor enjoyed a wonderful garden. They had four children together. Eleanor and Bill separated in 1962 and Eleanor and the children moved to Spokane. She bought a house in Opportunity, WA and attended Spokane Community College. She worked at Sunset Electric and later at American Sign and Indicator. In 1972, Eleanor married Warren Gene Hanford Sr. and they lived in Oaksdale, WA. They were married for five years and had one son together. In 1977, Warren was killed in a farming accident. In 1981, Eleanor moved with her son to Greenacres, WA where she was able to have a large garden she enjoyed working in, she especially loved roses and raising her own vegetables. Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Clarence and Harold Emtman, sister Marlene Emtman and husband Warren Hanford Sr. She is survived by her sisters Ursula Dittberner and Claire Fromme, son Ron (Kay) Thomas, son Allen (Kimberly) Thomas, daughter Jolene (Bob) Schnell, daughter Carol (Gary) Neuenschwander, son Warren Hanford Jr. and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held September 29 at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 4014 S. Bowdish Rd., Spokane Valley, WA followed by an inurnment at Rosewood Cemetery in Fairfield, WA.
