Eric JENSEN Obituary

May 26, 1972 - February 16, 2024

Eric Lee Jensen, 51, was doing his most favorite thing, fishing and talking to God, when he was called home to heaven. Eric was born May 26, 1972, to his loving parents, Wally and Pat (Wehmeyer) Jensen in Missoula, MT. After graduation from Freeman High School in 1990, Eric joined the Army, wanting to serve his country like his dad. During Ranger training, he was injured and honorably discharged. Soon after returning to Spokane, he reconnected with Jennifer (Gibson) Jensen who would become his best friend and beautiful wife for 28 years. They were wed on August 5, 1995. They spent countless days loving life filled with laughter, creating a true love affair together. In 2003 Gracie Jo joined them with a calm, strong sense of determination. In 2005, Jorja Rae came next with a little sass and a lot of wit. In 2014, at age 8 we adopted Sophia Grace Hunter who exudes joy wherever she goes. They were Team Jensen, filled with teasing, laughter, memories, and love. Eric adored his girls, all four of them.

Eric worked hard for his family, always going above and beyond. Everywhere Eric went he reflected God's light in his big smile and people were drawn to him. Eric loved to create. His woodworking skills have left a mark in the two homes and a cabin he remodeled with Jen, as well as numerous furniture pieces he built for his family and others. Eric's favorite hobby was fishing. He has fished his entire life, from riding his bike to fish all day at the Spokane River as a young boy to fishing with his best friend, tormenting each other in his boat. Fishing provided peace and time with God, it was good for Eric's soul.

Eric is survived by his bride and their three girls, his parents, his brothers Brian, Chris, and Anthony and their families, Jen's family, the "Montana mafia", and numerous other close friends and family.

Eric's life will be celebrated on Sunday, March 10th, at 3:00pm, Valley Real Life church, 1831 S. Barker Rd., Spokane Valley, WA, with a dessert reception to follow.

So sad to hear about the loss of Eric. He was a great student when I was his Grade School Principal. One time my daughter babyset, the three boys.
When she came home, she said they were even nice to each other. That was not her usual babysitting experience with children. The Jensen's are an amazing family. My prayers and thoughts are with them at this time.

I had the honor of working with Eric for the last 3t years. He was a true mentor. I would not be where I am today without his leadership, knowledge and ever lasting influence. I miss his storytelling of how he first meet me. He was a true leader and a very important colleague. I already miss his phone calls and that one person that always took my calls. I will do my best to keep my promises I made to him about being true to myself and leading by example!! When you´re up there fishing and you run into a man fishing for catfish, that´s my dad! Tell him I miss him! Thank you Eric, thank you for taking a chance on me! I will do my best not to let you down!

I think I first really got to know Eric about 10 years ago when he coached Gracie and several of her friends, including my daughter Katelyn in Hoop Fest. In grand Eric fashion, he kept the practices and the games, very upbeat! I remember that particular Hoop Fest was incredibly hot, and the girls were so worn out, but they had a great time and "Coach Eric" did such a great job keeping them positive and motivated! The longer I got to know Eric, the more I realized that The positive energy and sense of fun he conveyed were just a huge part of who he was.

Your ever-present smile revealed such a happy and loving heart. A great gift in my life is having had the pleasure of getting to know you, Jen and your daughters through having them as students in my art classes at Freeman. And these precious kids are so loved and respected by all and truly the most beautiful living testament to your broad and effective reach as their loving father. Thank you and Godspeed!
