Florence HUSA Obituary
A life full of love, happiness, service, and nurturing came to its close as Florence Irene Husa (Seeley) passed away on October 21, 2023, in Spokane Valley. Born April 7, 1932, in Tacoma, Washington, Florence was the middle child and only daughter of Ernest "Pat" and Salley Seeley. She held her own with her four brothers, older twins Elvin and Melvin, and younger brothers, Leroy "Bud", and Cecil. She grew up on a farm near Bonney Lake with no electricity and a very cold outhouse in the wintertime. After graduating from Sumner High School, Florence started working at the Soil Conservation Service office in Puyallup. There she met the love of her life, Lennie Husa. They were married on March 24, 1951. While living in Puyallup, son, Darwin, and daughter, Cheryl, were born. Shortly after Cheryl's birth in 1955, the family moved to Colfax. Son, Craig, arrived after the family moved to Spokane Valley in 1959. Family was always important to Florence and she and Lennie had many visits with their extended family. Gatherings at home or out camping always benefited greatly by her fabulous cooking and baked goods. Hands and feet were warmer thanks to her knitting, and birthdays and weddings were even more special when blessed with her creative and artistic cakes. Florence and Lennie traveled widely across the United States, including Alaska, pulling their travel trailer thousands of miles with countless adventures. They also traveled many times to Europe for family reunions in Finland and to explore. Active in the community, Florence was a leader in the Girls Scouts, the Cub Scouts, the United Methodist Church, Finlandia, and Skandia. She and Lennie were avid square dancers with the Spokane Valley Crosstrailers club for over 50-years.
Florence was preceded in death by Lennie, her husband of almost 70 years, her grandson Jamie Funke, and all her siblings. She is survived by her son, Darwin Husa (Jean), Poulsbo, WA, daughter, Cheryl Sampson (David), Spokane Valley, WA, son, Craig Husa (Susan), Fall City, WA, five grandchildren, Brian Husa (Emi) Saitama, Japan, David Husa, Seattle, WA, Andy Funke, Spokane, WA, Adam Husa, Seattle, WA, Carley Husa, New York, NY, and two great-grandchildren, Ken Husa and June Husa, Saitama, Japan. Her service and celebration of life will be held on Friday, November 3rd, at Opportunity Presbyterian Church.
