I first met Weird when I returned from pilot training and started flying with the Oregon Air Guard in 1972. A great guy to fly with and a better person. I was in new hire class with Hughes Air West and Weird was in the same class, he was upgrading to captain. Fond memories of studying DC9 systems with his help. I always enjoyed running into him as we passed thru airports as we flew with Airwest, Republic, and Northwest Airlines.
A great guy, he'll be missed.

Fifty-three years ago Loren inherited a group of rowdy and wild young second-lieutenants when he became our class commander in the 3552nd squadron at Moody AFB Georgia. Due to his rank of Captain, he led the "Last of the Jet Set" class 66H through pilot training and finally pinning on those coveted silver wings. We could not have had a better leader for that "Best year of our life" than Loren. Great memories of a truly classy Gentleman. Ran into him briefly on the crew bus at Northwest just before he retired. Wish I could have spent more time with him reminiscing of those days. He will be missed by all the "Tigers" of H-class.

To those of us that were lucky enough to fly fighters with him, he wasn't Loren or Harold, he was Weird Harold, or simply Weird. He was a great pilot, but importantly, a great guy. Here's hoping he's found some nice twisty motorcycle roads to play on. Fly safe, Weird.

I will miss the "Sheriff of 46th Street", as I jokingly called him. Loren was always checking on the neighbors and keeping us informed. He liked helping roll in the garbage cans, walking the dog, and sharing a story and kind word with all. Rest in Peace Loren; 46th Street will not be the same without you! My sympathy and prayers to his lovely, devoted family. Maria Maribona

To the family of Loren. My sympathy and love are with you this week as you say goodbye to that dear man. He was so much fun and very entertaining and I will never forget all those wonderful gatherings at your house. Alywa welcoming and usually a big pot of soup. We will all miss him, but will always remember him for many reasons. Margaret Haydon
