Herb L. Genteman

Genteman, Herb L. August 31, 1945 - November 13, 2025 Icon, fixture, legend. Tall words for a tall man that told such tall tales. A man that built a living selling adventure, dealing in smiles, while throwing the laughter in for free. Herb Genteman Jr. passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family. Born in Puyallup and raised in Greenacres, he graduated from Central Valley High School, class of '63. Marrying Lin Larned in 1969 secured his role in the family business, The Sports Creel, in Spokane Valley. Herb dedicated his life to both endeavors. Hobie sailer, Heli-skier. Sand bagger, skins stealer. Cereal slurper, sidewalk sweeper. Entertainer, car detailer. A storyteller, so captivating, one never sees that punchline lurking just around the corner. A golf swing only Charles Barkley would envy, and a putter that opponents loved to hate. Devoted husband, dedicated father, dog lover (cats too). Admired, treasured, and loved by so many; a life well lived indeed. Poppi to his grandchildren and Herbie to his friends, a man for many people, smiling till the end. Herb's eternal soul lives on, bonded within the delicate sparkle of freshly fallen snow, reflected in the glint of early morning dew. Preceded in passing by his parents, Herb Sr. and Alice Genteman, as well as his brother, Mike; he is survived by his loving wife, Lin; sister, Kathryn; sons, Micah and Adam; bonus daughters, T.J. and Pia; and grandchildren, Olivia and Marshall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Washington State Junior Golf in his honor.
