James LAKODUK Obituary

1937 - 2021

James Alan Lakoduk of Post Falls, ID, died at Kootenai Memorial Hospital in Coeur D' Alene, ID, on July 20, 2021. Gracious to all, He was greatly loved and he loved greatly. His love for his family and friends was unconditional and he will be missed by all of us.

Born in Minot, ND in 1937, he was the 2nd of 5 children born to Peter Jaye Lakoduk and Molly (Dobowey) Lakoduk. In 1942 the family moved to Vancouver, WA, and in 1950 moved to Coulee City, WA. Alan graduated from Coulee City High School in 1956 and in 1957 married his high school sweetheart, Yvonne L. Miller. They made their home in numerous places as Alan advanced in his career with the Washington State Parks. They raised their sons mostly at Mt. Spokane State Park where Alan was the Park Manager until his retirement.

After retirement Alan and Yvonne moved to Idaho, Alan's favorite Elk hunting state. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and many other outdoor activities. He was always working at something, most often helping someone he cared for. Alan enjoyed his home and yard, gardening, working on things in his shop. He also enjoyed cooking for his family and friends. His delicious Borscht was the best.

In retirement years Alan and Yvonne traveled frequently and for many years made a winter home in Quartzsite, AZ. Alan once said he had spent enough years shoveling and plowing "Partly Cloudy" during his many years on Mt. Spokane.

Alan was a good steward of all that was entrusted to him in this life. He was diligent to ensure quality in all he did. Alan was especially faithful in preparing his soul for eternity. He made his choice to serve God in 1981 and was faithful to the end…for well he knew that "Fair are the prospects all ahead".

Alan is survived by his wife of 63 years, Yvonne Lucille (Miller) Lakoduk; two sons Stanley Miller and David R. Lakoduk; three grandchildren, Kalen J. Lakoduk, Alana S. Medcalf, McCauley C. Johnson; four great-grandchildren, Wyatt D. Medcalf, Ava M. Medcalf, James A. Lakoduk III and Ruby Joy Lakoduk; and a brother Larry L. Lakoduk, all of whom loved him beyond measure.

His parents, and his son James A. Lakoduk Jr., brothers Peter V. Lakoduk, David R. Lakoduk, and sister Patricia G. Lakoduk, preceded Alan in death.

Alan's funeral will be on August 14th at 10:30 AM at Norm and Tracy Waldo's property at 27769 W. Hwy. 53 Hauser, ID 83854. There will be a potluck onsite after the service. The phone-in number to listen remotely will be 857-799-9536 with no PIN needed. The service can be watched on-line thru this live video link; https://evt.live/alan-lakoduk-funeral.

Alan (and Yvonne) were the best neighbors anyone could ever ask for. Just fantastic friendly people. It was truly a blessing to live so close to them for 20 or so years.

I am greatly saddened to hear of Alan's passing. If there is anything my family can do to help the Lakoduk family during this difficult time, please let us know.
