November 5, 1964 - June 18, 2023,
Jann Edward Lauderbaugh, was intelligent, kind, funny, charming, handsome, empathetic, generous, extremely capable and entirely unique. Jann's life was cut short by cancer. A memorial was held in Portland, Oregon, on July 22, 2023.
Jann's surviving family members include his wife, Nichole Lauderbaugh, father, Stanley J. Lauderbaugh, stepmother, Anne Lauderbaugh, brother, Jon (Diane) Lauderbaugh, sister, Jayne (Daniel) Calkins, step-sister, Alison (Matthew) Jones, step-brother, Peter (Jody) Wunschel, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Jann was predeceased by his mother, Darlene Kay Cleveland Lauderbaugh in 2000, his niece, Shannon Resendez Burris in 2021, his grandparents, and other beloved family members.
Jann grew up in Spokane, spending many youthful summers in Minnesota with family. He moved to Seattle as a young adult, and later to Portland, Oregon, where he serendipitously met the love of his life, Lisa Nichole Schroder Pellett, whom he married March 20, 2011.
Jann attended Roosevelt Elementary and Ferris High School in Spokane. In 1990 Jann enrolled at Spokane Falls Community College, earning his GED. Jann was elected President of the Student Council when he attended Seattle Central Community College 2001-04. He completed his Bachelor of Science degree and master's degree in social work at the University of Washington in 2006.
Jann delivered Spokesman Review newspapers as a boy and was a roofer and house framer as a young man. After moving to Seattle, Jann spent many years in the '90s as lead doorman for the Vogue, a popular nightclub. Once he'd gained his social work degrees, Jann worked with recovering addicts at a Seattle methadone clinic. When Jann moved to Portland, his brother-in-law Dan hired Jann to help remodel a commercial building Dan co-owned. Jann segued into being the building's caretaker. He eventually returned to social work with the Volunteers of America, helping addicted and alcoholic men restore their lives. In his later years Jann worked for the City of Portland as a TriMet bus driver, and most recently as a bus driver for the St Helen's school district. Wherever Jann worked, he was valued for how hard he worked and his ability to positively impact colleagues, clients and customers.
As a boy, Jann attended Northwood Presbyterian Church with his family, and later Hamblen Park Presbyterian. In Seattle, he sometimes joined his mother at University Presbyterian Church. The spirituality Jann found in nature was most meaningful to him. Camping, swimming, fishing, and hiking were fond activities throughout his life; adventures often experienced with his father.
Jann loved dancing with his wife, reading, appreciating music from classical to punk, video gaming, cooking, writing poetry and essays, enjoying his cats, and being a good friend and neighbor. Jann was one-of-a-kind, and his absence is felt deeply by the many who loved him.
