Jesse FREEMAN Obituary

Jesse Collins Freeman "JC" was born in Littlefield, Texas, in 1932. He later moved with his family to Houston. It was there, in the seventh grade, that he met Dorothy, beginning a love story that would span more than seven decades. They were married for 71 years, building a life together grounded in faith, family, and enduring love.

JC honorably served his country during the Korean War as a member of the U.S. Navy, stationed on a tugboat in Texas. After his military service, he embarked on a long and fulfilling career in the oil and gas industry. As the owner of Mallard Oil Drilling, he provided gas lift equipment that supported vital energy operations. His entrepreneurial spirit extended beyond oil and gas into real estate, where he remained active and engaged throughout his life. He was an incredibly dedicated professional and mentored many others in the work environment.

JC and Dorothy briefly moved to Colorado but spent the majority of their lives in Houston, where they were active members of Garden Oaks Baptist Church and later Champion Forest Baptist Church. In 2005, they moved to Spokane, Washington, to be closer to their grandchildren. JC served as an elder for South Hill Bible Church and cherished his time participating in Bible Study Fellowship and men's Bible studies.

JC's greatest joy came from being a grandfather. He rarely missed a grandchild's sporting event and was always the biggest supporter in the stands. His wisdom, patience, and quiet strength shaped the lives of those around him in ways that will never be forgotten.

He leaves behind a lasting legacy of love, hard work, and unwavering devotion-to his faith, to his family, and to the woman he loved since seventh grade.

JC was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; parents, Jesse W. and Gladys H. Freeman; and sister, Dorothy. He is survived by his daughter, Susan (Darrell); and by his grandchildren, Jessica (Zachery) Kinney, Laura Ruby (Brit Pascoe), and Luke Ruby. He has one precious great-granddaughter, Luna. JC and Dorothy's family take comfort in knowing that they are together again for eternity.

A service was held at South Hill Bible Church Saturday, October 18, 2025.

Earlier today

We met JC and Dorothy when we moved to the Laurelhurst neighborhood 5 years ago. They were both very kind, friendly, and so welcoming. JC was very proud of his marigold flowers and they both shared pictures and stories of their grandchildren. They were such delightful neighbors - filled with so much love and passion for life. Truly a blessing in our lives.
