John BUSCH Obituary

BUSCH, John A.
(Age 67)

John Anthony Busch, formerly of Pullman, died Friday, September 2nd, in Spokane after a long struggle with Lewy Body dementia. John was a gentle spirit, cherished for his kindness, sense of humor and love of nature, family and friends. John was born June 25, 1949, in Colfax, the fourth of five siblings, and lived in Pullman until his graduation from Pullman High School in 1967. He was an outstanding athlete at PHS in three sports and played on a championship football team at Spokane Community College. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees in education from Washington State University and taught language arts and history for 31 years at the middle and high school levels. He began and ended his teaching career in the Pullman Schools but also taught in Wenatchee, Friday Harbor and Waitsburg. He was head baseball coach at PHS and head football coach at Friday Harbor. John was a dedicated teacher who made learning fun for his students. Music was a very important part of John's life. An accomplished guitar player and composer, he played in several small combos including a duo with his sister Laurie and enjoyed entertaining family and friends. He was an avid golfer, gardener and Cougar sports fan. John loved the simple pleasures of visits to Manito Park, Arbor Crest, Bellingham and trips to Cannon Beach with his wife Linda. John is survived by his wife Linda and her family in Spokane and Moses Lake. Other survivors are his son Gavin, and his children Logan and Brielle in Wenatchee; and his step-daughter Audrey (Dean) Becker, and her children Alexa and Damien in El Dorado Hills, CA. Also, his siblings Terry (Joyce) Busch, Bellingham, Carol (Jeff) Oyler, Spokane, Tim (Judy) Busch, Pullman, and Laurie (Pat) Caraher, Pullman; and many loving nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his parents, Cletus and Helen Busch of Pullman. The family would like to thank the staff at Guardian Angel Homes in Liberty Lake for the love and care they provided John in his last years. A private family gathering is planned. Memorials may be made in John's name to Hospice of Spokane or the Pullman Education Foundation, P.O. Box 151, Pullman, WA 99163. I team taught with John for several years in Wenatchee and they were they were the best of my career. He was a great teacher and I have missed him and now I'll miss him even more.

I first met John in 2015 when I had to place my husband in Guardian Angel homes. He and John hit it off right away. They were best friends and shared their love of sports. John was so kind, gentle and always had a smile on his face. I will always be thankful for all the love, caring and kindness that John showed my husband while they were in the home together. They are again together in heaven! My condolences go out to Linda, family and friends.

My Cousin John is a star in my life;
He will be a memory in my heart forever,
I saw him kneel and pray; and then ruin my no hitter and then apologized!
His patience, respect, love, and warmth always welcomed me,
We double dated; shared our first beer (maybe);
But most of all I was always glad to see John; he welcomed me;
As he lifted me up by the way he lived the life that God had blessed him with,
He is now with God in heaven forever!
