John PARR Obituary

January 28, 1930 - June 26, 2024

As many of you know, my father, John Parr passed away at the end of June... please consider this post as an honoring of his wishes.

Dad was adamant about not having a funeral or gathering after his death. Though initially I agreed, I've struggled with this as I've realized yet again that gathering is not for the dead, but rather for the living. However, I will continue to honor my father's wishes, and this will serve as the final remembrance of my father.

John A. Parr was born January 28,1930, to Edith Blanche and James Alvey Parr in Fort Worth, Texas. He was the 3rd of 11 children with two brothers and eight sisters. Dad married Nancy Viola Kay (deceased) on March 17, 1951, when they were 21 and 16 years old respectively. My mom, Nancy was, as he would say, "The only woman I ever loved." They raised five children, John Glenn (70), Sue Ann Gail (69), Randall Keith (68), Kelly Russel (deceased at 62), and Thomas Brian (60).

Dad was always a hard worker and endeavored to help the less fortunate, the people you may not even see, with work opportunities and affordable housing. He managed by the grace of God to keep his bills paid, with a little help from Peter and Paul that is. Dad had a strong faith that God was directing him in his efforts and always felt blessed. Throughout his life he enjoyed fishing, water and snow skiing, golfing, hunting and working and working, yes, he was a workaholic!

Dad had some memory loss and weakness in his final years, which required some extra care, but Dad was always quick to tell me "I'm not sick, you know". I was blessed to care for him in my home for almost two years. Dad's final hours were filled with the sounds of laughter, cards being played, gospel music and prayers for an easy passing. John passed away on June 26th, 2024, in his room at my home. I was blessed to be by his side when he took his final breath on this earth.

I miss him dearly, though he told me not to...

I also worked with John, for nearly ten years. I learned plenty from him and surprisingly taught him a couple of tings, so he said. He had actually probably just forgotten. He knew so much about so many things. I worked with him on his final remodeling job, which he went over his bid by $38. Not bad for figuring the cost off of the top of his head, and the fact he was 90 years old. John only ever treated people good and gave most anyone who was trying a chance. Even after his working days were over i continued to do little chores for him that he wasnt able and stopped in to see him often to check on him and to se hello. Many of those he helped didnt reciprocate his kindness but that never detoured his attitude towards trying to help out where he could, when he could. John was a very kind and thoughtful person, full of knowledge and understanding of so many things. I have always been glad to have known him and proud to have been called friend by him. The world is a lesser place from the loss of him.

John and I had so much fun together and I will surely miss him. I also worked with him, so I know how hard he worked. We also took skiing lessons together. He will surely be missed.

When Uncle John would come over to my grandma Joans house. She would always make lunch while Uncle John and Randy would help her with her yard work. He had one of the best smiles and always was so kind to my brother and I I know my grandma love to so much
