John Smith Roberts, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and proud veteran, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2026, in the arms of his wife and son. He was born in Minneapolis, MN, on January 11, 1945, and is survived by his wife of 59 years, Peggy Rolfsness Roberts; his son, Chris, and daughter in law, Erin and treasured grandchildren JP and Maggie.
John grew up in Spokane, WA, where he attended Shadle Park High School before enrolling at the University of Washington. During his time there, he joined ROTC and later served three honorable years in the United States Army. After completing his military service, John built a long and respected career in real estate with McPherson's and Skyline Properties.
In 2020, John and Peggy moved to Kentucky to be closer to Chris and his family. Though he traded the Pacific Northwest drizzle for Kentucky sunshine, he continued to cheer for the Mariners, Seahawks, and Huskies with unwavering optimism.
John found joy in woodworking, gardening, and making people laugh. His humor, sometimes clever, sometimes wonderfully groan worthy, was always shared with warmth and delight. He lived with kindness, love, and a gentle spirit that made others feel at ease.
May his memory be a blessing, and may his jokes continue echoing in the hearts of those who loved him. You will see him again.
