I worked at one of the banks in downtown Spokane in the late 70´s and would frequent Travos as often as we could.
We would try to get to the restaurant as fast as we could to get a seat because you had the BEST French fries ever!
Sure missed the place when it closed. Great memories for sure.

As a weekly counter customer for decades, I can honestly say that Joe and Travo's was a downtown Spokane treasure. Even though always busy, really busy, running a tight ship, Jow always had a moment to give a cheery welcome. His staff, including his fine family behind the counter, were friendly, efficien,t and, some, downright lovable. And, of course, there was the food ! I can still droolingly bring up memories of the soups - oh that muligitawny (sp). No other Spokane restaurant that I knew of, then or now, made this classic concoction. For that matter was there then or now a home kitchen making it. And, ahhhh, the scrumptious big bowls of creamy tomato soup which I would give most anything to dip a big, proper spoon into as I write. What was the secret ingredient that made the tomato soup exceptional ? A dash of ground cloves ? These and other delicious daily 'specials' kept ''lunch at Travo's'' happily in mind all morning. Cheers and Thanks, to you, Frank, and your family for the unique sweet and savory memories. Sincerely, Royce
