Joshua DOWNING Obituary

Joshua Downing was born April 28, 1982, in Grand Junction, Colorado to Shawn and Larry Downing. He passed to be with the Lord on November 30, 2022, with his mother by his side. Joshua had faith in God and accepted Jesus at a young age. I would ask him, "Where does Jesus live?" and he would say, "In my heart."

He is survived by sisters, Barbie Pierce, and Michelle Rivers, his brother Liam Ward, nephews Nick, Andrew & Blake, two great nephews, and a niece. Joshua was preceded in death by both sets of grandparents and many aunts and uncles.

Many years later Shawn and Joshua moved to Spokane in December of 2012. Joshua loved his dog Ricky and enjoyed taking him for walks at Fairmount Cemetery. He loved the outdoors, basketball, mini golf, bowling, and any kind of yard work. He liked his four-wheel drive truck & wish to have an ATV. Joshua's wanted to be a cop but couldn't because of his disabilities. I often told Joshua maybe he could be a cop in God's army in heaven. Joshua enjoyed going to the Cop Shop to say hi and to bring food, candy, and drinks to the officers. He would say, "Take the bad guys to jail." Joshua also really enjoyed giving gifts to others – even to strangers. Next to his mom, Joshua relied on Dennis Wilson – a schoolteacher. Dennis took Josh under his wing and became the dad he never knew. Dennis stayed with Shawn and Josh over extended periods of time to help him as his seizures increased. Joshua loved Dennis and called him daddy. Joshua was friendly and outgoing; he will be missed by many.

Services will be held December 9, 2022, at 9:00 am, at Fairmount Memorial Chapel, 5200 W. Wellesley, Spokane, Washington, 99205. After the service, there will be a brief time of prayer at his graveside and then a catered reception will follow in the same chapel in which the service was held for all participants.

We at the Northwest Cop Shop wish to send our deepest condolences. Josh was so sweet every time that he came to the shop with coffee or treats for the police. His smile and warm demeanor will be missed. We looked forward to every visit!

I would always love when Josh would come in to my work. He was such a light and funny character. I was sad to learn of his passing but know that he is now free from any limitations in Heaven above. I'll see you later Josh.
