Juanita Slemp Obituary
SLEMP,
Juanita Arlene
(Moody)
(Age 96)
Arlene was born March 27, 1914 in Walnut Township, Iowa, and was called to Heaven on December 3, 2010 in Davenport, WA. She is survived by son Randall Slemp and wife Rosemary (WA), daughter-in-law
Ramona Slemp (CA), eight grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren. Arlene was preceded in death by her husband Clifton Slemp, eldest son Garry Slemp, grandson Craig Slemp, parents August and Christina Moody, sister Mabel Cates (Moody), sister Eva Maxted (Moody), and brother Arthur Moody.
Arlene grew up on a farm in Iowa, graduated high school, completed a teaching certificate and then taught grammar school in a one room school house in the mid 1930's. Arlene and Clif were married in Missouri in 1937. They moved to southern California in 1941, where Clif worked for Lockheed Aircraft and later F&W Advertising. Arlene held down the home front and involved herself in making the home a warm and welcoming place as they raised their two sons. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, embroidery, shopping, preparing for Christmas and family holidays, and being with their lifelong friends. As the boys married and grandchildren began to appear, she supported the expanding families with great love and caring. Arlene loved to collect old furniture, antique household items, and costume jewelry which she could mix and match to her enjoyment. She and Clif also traveled through the U.S. to visit family and friends, historical sites and antique shops.
In 1989, Arlene and Clif left Burbank, CA and moved north to Angels Camp, CA where they enjoyed being close to adult grandchildren and their families. They also attended Murphys Bible Church, where they served as greeters for many years. They were also members of the International Old Timers SSB Club of Stockton. In December of 2006, Arlene and Clif relocated from Angels Camp, to Lincoln County Hospital Long Term Care facility in Davenport, WA to be closer to their Washington family. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in 2007. After Clif passed away in November 2007, Arlene continued making friends from the community and among the residents and staff, while enjoying many activities, including bingo, attending the weekly Bible Study sing along, and the Sunday Church services. On December 3, Arlene left for Heaven where she will spend eternity with the Lord, and be reunited with Clif and the rest of her family who have preceded her. Special thanks to all the staff at Lincoln Hospital and Long Term Care for their loving kindness and care of Mom and Dad. A memorial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Lincoln Hospital Foundation, 10 Nicholls St., Davenport, WA 99122. STRATE FUNERAL HOME, DAVENPORT, WA is caring for the family.
