Ken BJORGE Obituary

Born to Emma and Henry Bjorge on May 13, 1943, Kenneth Ray Bjorge peacefully passed in his sleep on April 10th, 2025.

Ken was born and raised in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He graduated with a degree in law from the University of South Dakota and was a brother of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. He obtained a Master of Law from the University of Miami and began a successful teaching career in 1973, specializing in Environmental Law, at Gonzaga University. In 1988, Ken left law behind, moving to Bigfork, Montana, to pursue a new career as a sculptor.

For the next 36 years, Bjorge's Old Standard Gallery became a fixture for the artists' community and the town of Bigfork. His works range from wildlife and western sculpture to commissioned monuments of both wildlife and distinguished individuals. Some of his most notable achievements include monuments for Auburn University, University of Texas, University of Washington, Montana State University, Westinghouse Corp., The Living Desert Wildlife Park, Flathead Bank of Bigfork, and Majestic Valley Arena, among many others.

Ken loved greeting people in his gallery. He was a performer at heart and even found himself in "A Chorus Line" at the Bigfork Summer Playhouse. He was a high-ranking elf, providing the town Christmas tree, lighting, and direction for over 30 years.

The "Old Norwegian" was a much-loved member of this special Bigfork community. Bigfork lost a valued friend and prominent artist last week.

Ken Bjorge will always be remembered for his work, and more importantly, his support of the village. His gallery was a major attraction for locals and visitors alike, and his annual village Christmas tree has always been a seasonal favorite. Most of all, his good friends will always remember him…RIP, pal.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Tammy Bjorge; five children, Eric Bjorge, Kirsten (Bjorge) Buffamoyer, Fabienne (Bjorge) Averill, Nate Ostrander, Jake Ostrander; ten grandchildren; and his brother, Jerald Bjorge.

In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to the Flathead Valley Animal Shelter. Johnson-Gloschat Funeral Home is caring for the family. A celebration of life will be held at a future date to be announced. Stay tuned….
