Leopoldina 'Lena' was born June 17, 1931, in Selfridge, ND, daughter of Felix and Katherine (Gross) Silbernagel.
She was married to Christian "Chris" Gehring for 60 years and they lived in George, WA, for many years. Lena was a member of the Georgettes and often helped serve the World's Largest Cherry Pie on the 4th of July. She was a wonderful, dedicated, loving Mother. Lena enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren, she loved playing pinochle and other family games. She was always ready for an adventure, loved to dance and enjoyed spending time with her grandkids, harvesting berries and apples, picking walnuts, and gardening. She was a source of love and strength to our family, even during her hours of suffering. She was a devout Catholic and was the faith backbone of her family. She instilled that faith in her children as well as a quiet resolve and belief in honest, hard work.
She is survived by her four daughters, Sylvia (Jim, R.I.P.) Meloche, Linda Cocco (Dave), Beverly Edwards (Mike), Linette Laiminger (Mark); and two sons, Virgil Gehring (Donna), and Allen Gehring; along with thirteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Maggie Krumm, Valerie (Mike) Saffel, Eugenia (Lee) Roehrich, Joey (Mark) Erhardt; brothers, Eddie Silbernagel, Leo (Darlene) Silbernagel, and Robert (Cathy) Silbernagel.
She was preceded in death by her husband Chris, and her sisters Ann (Carl) Roehrich, Mary (Carl) Liennar, Lillian (John) Vetter and Arly (Don) Haag.
Rosary service will be at 6:00 PM, on Friday, May 5, 2017, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, 2320 N. Cedar St. Spokane. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 AM, on Saturday, May 6, 2017, also at St. Anthony's.
