Lorae Sims, loving wife, mother, grandmother, sis-ter, aunt and friend, passed away January 21, 2018 from an injury sustained in an ice skating accident.
She was born in Spokane January 3, 1955, the eldest child of June and Carl Roemer. She spent her early years in Eston, Saskatchewan, and attend-ed school there from first through sixth grade. Returning to the Spokane area, she graduated from Central Valley High School in 1972. She went through the Dental Assisting program at SCC, and spent 45 years in the dental profession as an assistant, and in accounts/receivable. In recent years she had also helped out as a bookkeeper for her brother's construction business, as a caretaker and house cleaner for several elderly friends, and as an art teacher through the East Valley School District. She was President of the North Spokane Irrigation District #8 Board of Directors, and served on that board for many years.
Lorae was an extraordinary individual, a strong woman who was always open to new challenges. She had a talent for bringing people into her circle and adopting them as friends and extended family. She enjoyed quilting and fabric arts, and many of her friends and family are the recipients of quilts made by her talented hands. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, dancing, and visiting the Oregon Coast. Her main joy was visiting and laughing with friends and family. She wove a wonderful thread through the tapestry of our lives. Lorae and her husband were members of Calvary Spokane. She was a believer in Jesus Christ her Savior, and is now safe in His arms.
She is survived by, and deeply missed by Jeff Sims, her husband of almost twenty years; her daughter Jesse Hodgden and son-in-law Erik; son Josh Blackwell and daughter-in-law Melissa McDowall; granddaughter Stella Blackwell; Michael Blackwell; father Carl Roemer; brother Carey (Charlotte) Roemer, brother Arley Roemer; and sister Elsa (Ken) Johnson. She also leaves behind a wide circle of nieces and nephews, extended family and friends to mourn the loss of this wonderful, beautiful lady.
A Celebration of her Life will be held Saturday, February 3rd, 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Spokane, 511 W. Hastings. The family suggests any memorial gifts may be directed to either Cup of Cool Water or Life Services of Spokane, Lorae's two favorite charities; or to the charity of your choice
. The family wishes to especially thank the ICU staff at Sacred Heart Hospital, and the organ donation staff at LifeCenter Northwest. Through Lorae's selfless gift as an organ donor, others will live.
