Michael MACAULAY Obituary

MACAULAY, Michael Neil November 24, 1940 to October 2, 2013 It is with a profound grief that we write about the passing of Mike-husband, father, leader and patriarch. Mike's life was one of service and devotion, and he positively impacted the lives of countless young people during his short 72 years on this earth. There are no words to describe the enormous void he will leave behind in his family, his community, and his extensive circle of friends and associates. Mike joined the angels on Wednesday, October 2nd after suffering a stroke while in Seattle. He passed away at Harborview Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. He will be remembered for his love of life, sense of humor, and his dedication to family and friends. He was a man who lived his convictions with unwavering honor and integrity, and his steadfast commitment to duty and those he loved made him a role model to everyone. He leaves behind his wife of 52 years, Gay, and three children: Mike Jr. (Jennifer), Kim and Colleen (George). Mike was a loving and devoted grandfather to Chase, Fiona, Siever, Geo, Mikey, Jimmy, and Devante. He is survived by sisters Nora (Larry) Lowe and Margaret Dureau. He is predeceased by his parents Angus and Lillian Macaulay, sister Lillian Barker, son-in-law Jeff Walker, and close friend Dan McKelvey. Mike was raised in Burnaby, BC where he was an outstanding athlete in both football and baseball. In 1959, at the age of 18, he came to Cheney to play football for Eastern Washington University. It was there that he met the love of his life, Gay (Sisich) and discovered the Spokane area, his permanent home. He was married, started his family, and began his coaching career in the early 1960's, primarily with Spokane Falls Community College. Mike coached football, baseball, wrestling, and tennis at SFCC and was inducted into WACC Hall of Fame with his football and tennis teams. In the mid-1970's he started down a new career path and became a stockbroker. Mike's coaching and mentoring skills led to positions of leadership with Kidder, Peabody & Co., where he managed the Spokane office through the 1980s. In 1990, he founded Macaulay & Associates, an investment firm with Colleen in Spokane and Mike Jr. in Seattle. He built his own magnificent home where he has resided for the past 44 years. Throughout his lifetime he remained involved in Eastern Washington University athletics and many civic and philanthropic organizations. He was an avid polo player, hockey player, skier, tennis player and golfer and held numerous positions of leadership in every organization with which he was affiliated. Remembrances may be made to the Salvation Army's Sally's House, or O'Dea High School. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, October 11th, at 1:30 PM at Our Lady of Lourdes Cathedral, 1115 West Riverside Ave., Spokane, WA 99201. Mike is not dead until he is forgotten
And we will never forget, he will live on in the lives he touched as a Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle, Husband and Friend. He lives in the stories we tell, the memories we share, the life we will honor and the person we love. He has just moved to the inside of our hearts!

From Long Beach,

Gay...we will miss Mike a lot. He was supposed to be around for us for another generation, or two. He was a man's man in the truest sense of the word. And loved you more than life itself; I think from the day he met you. We are far away but you and your family are in our hearts and prayers.
