Michael B. Wickwire

1940 - 2017

Wickwire, Michael B Mike Wickwire passed away peacefully on Friday, February 24th. A man of deep faith, Mike joyfully left this earth for his home in heaven. Mike was born in Spokane on November 24, 1940 to Chester and Mary Wickwire. The Wickwires spent most of their free time at their cabin on the Pend Oreille river. Mike grew to love the outdoors and the beauty of nature, which he would later learn to put on canvas. He graduated from Rogers High School in 1958. He attended EWU prior to joining the Army in 1961. He was stationed in Aschaffenburg, Germany as a member of the heavy tanks division. Whiled stationed there, he received the Army Commendation Medal for an Act of Courage for saving the life of a child. His family treasures the letters from his commanding officers and the German newspaper articles praising his heroic actions. Upon returning to Spokane in 1963, he fell head of heels for Linda Annis and married her the following July. Mike was preceded in death by his parents and his older sister, JoAnn Pelky. He is survived by his wife Linda; their three daughters: Julie, Shelley and Susie (Scott), six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Our family would like to sincerely thank Providence VNA and Hospice of Spokane for their wonderful care during his final days. Mike’s hobbies included fishing, a love/hate relationship with WSU football and landscape painting. Our family will celebrate his journey to heaven by wearing the beautiful colors of his artist’s palate at his memorial. He may even appreciate a little crimson and gray. Mike’s Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, March 18th at 1pm at Victory Faith Fellowship, 2024 N. Argonne Road.
