Nancy NICHOLAS Obituary

Nancy Lynn Nicholas, 64, of Spokane, WA, passed away on March 4th, 2023. Nancy was predeceased by her parents, Bob & Hazel Ralph, and brother Mike Ralph.

She is survived by her husband, Steve Nicholas; and her children, Josh (Skylar) Nicholas, Susanne (Dan) Wadkins, and Rachael (James) Kruse. Her legacy lives on with her eight adoring grandchildren whom she cherished: Morrison Nicholas, Lola, Mac, Hank & Marie Wadkins, and Hazel, Silas & Cora Kruse.

Nancy was born in Hutchinson, KS, received her teaching degree from the University of Nebraska, and after starting a family with Steve, they moved to Spokane and she began teaching. She spent nine years teaching at All Saints Catholic School, before moving to Sacajawea Middle School to teach reading, where she stayed for almost twenty-one years. She had a passion for inspiring children to love reading and became the master at connecting with kids through books. Her classroom door was always open and she gave students a place to be themselves.

Her children and grandchildren were her proudest accomplishments. Her home was always full of their friends and families. Everyone was always welcome.

A funeral service will be held at St. Aloysius Church, in Spokane, on Friday, April 14th, 2023, at 4:00 pm. A private reception will follow.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to The Nazareth Guild, and specify the Nancy Nicholas Book Grant. Because of her passion for reading and love of Catholic Schools, all donations in her name will go towards a future book grant for local Catholic school teachers. Donations can be made online at www.nazarethguild.org or can be mailed to P.O. Box 76, Spokane, WA, 99210.

It was sometime mid school year 7th grade. Nancy nicholas home-base. Our homebase won for the most donations for the penny drive. So we got to participate in the little tournament. Two 8th grade home bases and 2 7th grade homebases. We had the least amount of people in our group but it didn't stop us from winning the first round. And then competing in the blindfolded maze test. Where you would put a blindfold on, and the other person would tell you where to go. Besides everyone on our team could easily see through the blind fold but of course we didnt tell any body. We then won the competition. Next week having a donut party. It was my favorite memory of 7th grade. And even winning her the first homebase tournament for her. Favorite middle school memory to this day. I am now in sophomore year of high school.

Our dear Nancy is in the heavens. She brightened my life with her contagious smile and her twinkling eyes. She was always interested. She listened actively. She brought joy! She brought laughter. I will always remember her and I will always love her.
Much love to Steve, your children and your wonderful grandchildren.
