Nancy SCHUTZ

Nancy A. Schutz, age 81, of Spokane, WA, passed away on Saturday, February 25, 2023, following an over four-year-long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. Nancy was born on May 5, 1941, in Spokane, WA, to Gladys E. Krogel and Walter Krogel. She attended John R. Rogers High School in Spokane (class of 1959), graduating from Pacific Lutheran University in 1963 with her Bachelor of Arts degree in Education. After beginning her teaching career in Wenatchee, WA, she obtained her Master's in Education from Stanford University. After teaching for seven years in Wenatchee, she moved back to Spokane to support her husband's career, holding positions at LouLou's Sport ski shop and The Crescent department store, later volunteering actively at her son Justin's Indian Trail Elementary school. In her most recent career, Nancy worked for the City of Spokane, where she worked for both the Municipal Court and Water Department, from which she retired after 15 years. Nancy married Wayne H. Schutz on August 10, 1968, and the couple had one child together, Justin, born 1979 before Wayne's passing later that same year. She was a deeply devoted mother and daughter, a thoughtful letter-writer, a terrific cook, and was a close friend and amazing listener to many, maintaining deep friendships from every chapter of her life.

Nancy is survived by her son, Justin Schutz, of Seattle, WA, her brother Jerry Krogel and sister-in-law, Diane of Spokane, WA, her niece Alison Krogel of Denver, CO, and her children, Octavio and Aurelia, her niece Erin Krogel of Point Arena, CA; sister-in-law Marlene Liranzo (Schutz) of Kirkland, WA, nephew Michael Liranzo of Seattle, WA; and niece Lindsey Liranzo Ward, husband Mathew, and children Jackson, Reid, and Riley, of Redmond, WA. He/she is preceded in death by her husband, Wayne, 1943-1979.

The Funeral Service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 8, at Heritage Funeral Home (508 N. Government Way, Spokane, WA 99224). All are welcome to attend and celebrate Nancy's life.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Spokane for their long-term support of Nancy during her time at Brookdale Nine Mile memory care, whose staff the family thanks for their compassionate care of her for the past three and a half years.
