Patrick MOLVIK Obituary

April 6, 1967 October 22, 2025

Patrick Michael Molvik, 58, passed away unexpectedly on October 22, 2025. He leaves behind a world he made brighter, smarter, and kinder - and a legacy that hums in every wire he repaired, every student he inspired, and every life he gently guided.

Patrick was a modern-day renaissance man; a true polymath whose curiosity knew no limits. He was passionate about more things than time or space could ever hold and could never resist discovering how things worked. Radios, engines, and computers often found themselves spread across his workbench, awaiting the patient precision of his hands. He brought broken things back to life - not just machines, but sometimes spirits too.

From the time he served as a Nuclear Machinist's Mate aboard submarines in the U.S. Navy, Patrick's path reflected his ambition and curiosity. After his service, he earned his Mechanical Engineering degree with honors from Gonzaga University and eventually became Chief Engineer within the Acoustic Research Detachment in Bayview, Idaho. This final role allowed him to merge his technical mastery with his inventive spirit and unwavering dedication to discovery.

He was a bastion of science and learning, not only in our community, but across the country. His mind overflowed with original ideas; he was an inventor and held several patents. Additionally, through programs like SeaPerch and years spent teaching STEM to middle and high school students, Patrick opened doors for countless young minds. Many of the students he mentored went on to become engineers, educators, and innovators themselves, carrying forward his love of discovery. He never stopped giving his time and knowledge, volunteering throughout his life to strengthen the communities he served and loved.

Patrick and his wife, Donna, shared 37 beautiful years together. Their love story began on May 16, 1988, while both were serving in the U.S. Navy and stationed at the Navy Annex in Washington, D.C. From a single shared laugh while waiting for a bus ride, a lifetime began. Just eight weeks later, they married beneath the summer sky at Glencarlyn Park in Arlington, Virginia. Theirs was a love that deepened with each passing year; steady, radiant, and rare. They had wished for decades more together.

A celebration of Patrick's life will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., at Sherman-Campbell Funeral Home, located at W. 423 2nd Street, Newport, Washington.

Patrick's mind was extraordinary, but it was his heart that defined him. He lived to learn, teach, build, serve, and imagine. Though his time here was far too short, he will be remembered as he lived and how people knew him - brilliant and kind.

I was deeply saddened to hear of his passing and want to express my heartfelt condolences. Although I only had the privilege of knowing him this past year, the impact he made on me and everyone around him is undeniable. He was a brilliant engineer with an unmatched ability to solve problems, but it was his kindness, humor, and generosity that truly set him apart. His presence was a beacon of positivity, always encouraging others to succeed, and his willingness to lend a hand was something I´ll always remember.
Having worked closely with him, I can honestly say he was one of the most awesome people I´ve met. Not only was he a brilliant engineer, but he was also incredibly inventive and passionate about his work. If the budget was tight, he didn´t just accept it he found a way to make things work, often coming up with creative solutions that were both efficient and effective. He also had a fantastic sense of humor and always knew how to make us laugh, even on the toughest days. I´ll always remember the one time I got to taste his mac & cheese it was absolutely amazing and a perfect reflection of his warmth. He was such a humbling person, always speaking with so much love and admiration for his family. His devotion to them was evident in everything he said. Though his time with us was far too short, I´ll always cherish the moments we shared. God has gained another angel, and we are all the better for having known him. His spirit, kindness, humor, passion for his work, and love for his family will never be forgotten, and I´ll carry those memories with me always.
