Ralph SHANNON Obituary

SHANNON, Ralph
Andrews

October 29th, 1934 - October 4th, 2017

Ralph joined his Lord Wednesday, October 4th at the age of 82. WVHS graduate in '52, Ralph went on to serve in the Navy and received his B.S. degree from WSU in '64. Ralph then spent the rest of his career as an Electrical Engineer for WWP (now Avista) from which he retired in 1997. His truest joys were spending time with his family, taking care of their hobby farm in Otis Orchards, and going camping and skiing. Ralph also had a passion for helping others through his service to Millwood Community Presbyterian Church, Spokane East Rotary Club, and the Spokane Interstate Fair. Ralph was always smiling and seemed to know people everywhere he went, even when traveling out of town or country, but he was always looking to make more new friends. This made his slow decline from Alzheimer's heartbreaking to all who knew him. Ralph is survived by his dearest sweetheart and wife of 62 years Marlene (Edgemon) Shannon, his children Katrina (Dave) Fjeld, Tom (Kelli) Shannon and Tami (Heath) Hickman and his five treasured grandsons; Alex, Ben and Chris Shannon and Dane and Justin Fjeld. He is also survived by his sisters Laurel Durkee and Bonnie Shannon and brother Bill (Becky) Shannon. He was preceded in death by his baby daughter Kari Sue, parents William "Pat" and DeLorus Shannon and brother Jim Shannon. Viewing to be held at Hennessey Valley Funeral Home at 1315 N Pines Rd, Spokane Valley on Friday, October 13th from 3-8pm. Graveside services will be at Evergreen IOOF Cemetery in Rosalia, WA Saturday, October 14th at 10:00 am. A memorial service will be at 3:30pm at Millwood Community Presbyterian Church, 3223 N Marguerite Rd, Spokane WA. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations made to Camp White c/o Millwood Community Presbyterian Church or to Alzheimer's research in the hope that a cure can be found before we lose another generation to this terrible debilitating disease. I worked with Ralph for 29 years. He was a good friend.Ralph was always willing to help when a need arose. Because of the relationship with Ralph and his family, my family has two traditions. Over fifty years of making apple cider and bluebird watching. Thank you,Ralph. My sympathies to Marlene and family.

Ralph worked with my dad, Rich Bakes, at WWP. He thought the world of Ralph and always loved running into him after he retired. He was a special man and admired by many at WWP.
As a teacher, I enjoyed getting to know his daughter. Thinking of all of you during this transition. Love to you all. Joyce Roskelley
