Rebecca Schiering Obituary

SCHIERING, Rebecca & Phillip Rebecca and Phillip Schiering were taken from us on July 18, 2010. These two amazing people will forever be remembered for their joyful energy, open hearts, and giving nature. Rebecca was brought into this world by Beverly and Jim Volk on December 27, 1973 in the small town of Aberdeen, South Dakota. From an early age she displayed the wit and charm that she would later become known for by those that loved her. Joined later by her younger brothers David and Evan, Rebecca and their mother eventually settled in the Spokane Valley in 1989. Though Rebecca's early adulthood was abundant in personal struggles, her first blessings came in the form of her first child, Brian Winkler, whom she had with her first husband, Rick Winkler. Brian's inherent kindness and patience would later play an intricate role in helping shape Rebecca's remarkable transition to Mother, Business Owner, and Philanthropist that the Spokane Community has come to know, love, and respect. Rebecca's final savior was the birth of her twins Jack and Phillip on November 16, 2000 which cemented Rebecca's resolve. The most giving of children, Phillip shared his mother's sense of humor, wit, and generosity. Although, their time on this earth was short, their family hopes that their accomplishments and ability to overcome hurdles in life will serve as an inspiration to others. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, July 23rd Heritage Funeral Home. The service will be open to the friends and family of Rebecca and Phillip. The family requests that in lieu of flowers; please send contributions to The Rebecca Schiering Children's Fund at the United Health Service Credit Union, 613 S Washington, PO Box 3110, Spokane WA 99220-3110.

I can't get your family out of my mind. I think on all the struggles your family has overcome through the years. I worked with Rebecca's Mother in Spokane and remember all to well the ups and downs, trials and tribulations. I was so pleased that Rebecca rose above and was doing so well. Bev's children and grandchildren are her pride and joy and I wish the family strenghth.

I was a customer of the Reclothery. Rebecca was a sharp businesswoman and she took the time to return my call a few days before the tragedy. I will always remember that conversation. I was in awe of her accomplishments given her hard life. I admired her very much. My heart is with her family.

I did not know Rebecca well but was a customer of The Reclothery. She had the rare talent of being professional and exhibiting a warm and friendly spirit at the same time. I could tell that she really cared about her employees. I am inspired to give back to the community the way that she did. Many prayers to her family - may God bring you peace.

Rebecca was a strong life force in my network of women small-business owners. We testified before the city council together on behalf of the SNAP Microenterprise Department and its programs that have helped us grow our businesses. Her involvement in our community and success in business will continue to drive and inspire me. Thank you, Rebecca - your family are in my prayers.

I first met "Becky" 25 years ago when she came to work with her Dad one day. I remember she sat down on the floor, leaned against the wall, and quietly read her book. I haven't seen her in many years, but I know through her Dad, that she was an amazing person, and he was so proud of her.

Jim, Bev, David, Evan, and all the rest of Rebecca and Phillip's family, my thoughts and prayers are with you.

I sometimes shopped at the Reclothery. I remember Rebecca saying that she was the new owner. I could tell that she had so much going for her, and a smile that told me that she was a happy person. She showed humility but had a strong resolve. I am positive that her memory will live on with those who knew her and her precious son. She was a beautiful person. What will happen with her shop now?

Your life will forever keep the flame burning in my thoughts. So many are proud of you, but what I am most thankful for is that learned how to be yourself and proud of who you are!

Jim, Bev, Brian, Jack you can be so proud of Becky, she loved life and lived it to the fullest. She did more in her short life than most do in a life time. She had so much good in her-she was such a fun loving person who you couldn't help but love. She was not only beautiful on the outside but had just as much inner beauty. She always gave of herself and did so to the end. Becky and Phillip will be missed by all and never forgotten. Her spirit will live on through Jack and Brian. We are so glad we got to spend time with her and the boys last summer. Even though we can't be there tomorrow we will have two candles burning for Becky and Phillip, you will all be in our thoughts and prayers. They must be feeling the love by all. Rest in Peace! My thoughts and prayers go out to the family. I met Rebecca many years ago when her son (Jack) was in my preschool class. She amazed me with her strength, determination, and her love for the twins. I pray for peace and comfort for the family and God's loving presence to surround Jack.
God bless you!

I never had the chance to meet Rebecca in person. I live a little under a block away from them and the twins always came over to play with my kids. They were sweet little guys. My heart extends to Jack and their family as I can not imagine the pain they are enduring right now. My children pray for Jack every night and are missing their friend Phillip. Again condolences to the entire family!

My condolences to the family. During this time of great sorrow may it help you to know that others are deeply touched by your loss. Even though our hearts are broken after losing someone dear, rest assured our grand creator cares about each one of us personally. 1 Peter 5:7 "while you throw all your anxiety upon him, because he cares for you."

Rebecca took guitar lessons from me at Replay Music in Spokane for about 2 years. Every week she would come in and I would show her guitar chords and we would chat about her past life and how she was getting together the means to buy the Reclothery. I laughed, dreamed, and played music with her for 2 glorious years. She would bring the kids in every once in a while and her oldest son was doing Karate lessons. She really filled the room with positive energy! I mean really she did! I can't stop sobbing! I love Rebecca! My life will never be the same now that she is not in it. Goodbye Rebecca and Philip. God Bless you both! Ray Allen

Rebecca was an intelligent, sweet, kind person who overcame incredible obstacles to do good for herself, her family, and even strangers through her charity volunteering. She aspired to learn how to play guitar, and stuck with it. Just one more thing she was persistent about even while juggling a family as a single mother and a new small business. The good may not always die young, but the saying is too true in Rebecca's case. Rest In Peace Rebecca & Phillip.

Rebecca taught me how kindness shown towards others can enhance your life. So many were blessed by the priviledge of knowing her. Being around Phillip always kept a smile on my face. My sympathy goes out to the entire family. Brian and Jack: I love you.

Rebecca showed her true strength and character turning her life around. She continually held in her heart the courage to go forward. Her generous nature, her wit and humor will be missed. She loved her children and they loved her back. Phillip was an amazing little man who's energy had no bounds.Together they are wrapped in the arms of the Lord.
