Rex SIMSHAUSER Obituary

March 20, 1941 - January 3, 2025

Twin lakes, Idaho - Rex passed away on January 3rd, 2025, at the age of 83, in Portland Oregon after a long battle with Dementia. Rex is survived by his three children, Debra (Paul) Vernon of Portland, Quinn Cavanaugh of Ft Meyers, Florida, and Shaune Simshauser of Spokane; as well as numerous grandchildren. Rex had two brothers, Duane Simshauser of Mt Vernon, Gene (Sara) Simshauser of Mesa, AZ; and sister, Rita (Rick) Ryser of Katy, TX.

Rex graduated from Deer Park High School in 1959 and shortly thereafter joined the army spending a majority of his tour at Ft. Gordon, GA. It was there that he met and married his wife, Patsy, before moving back to Spokane following his discharge.

Rex and Patsy raised their family in Spokane and also at the family farm in Deer Park. Rex went to work at Round Up grocery where he stayed for several years. He then moved to Portland when Round Up sold and he went to work at Winnco grocery, retiring 2002.

Following retirement Rex lived on the Oregon Coast for two years before returning to the area he loved the most, north Idaho and Spokane buying a home in Twin Lakes, Idaho. Rex was an avid outdoorsman spending a lot of time hiking, biking, fishing and running. He always enjoyed golfing and/or tennis with his many friends. He was also an accomplished landscaper specializing in Japanese gardens, volunteering to teach at nurseries, help his neighbors or his HOA. Rex was very particular about what he put into his projects often looking over extended times or distances in order to find exactly what he wanted. In the winter Rex worked on his other hobby, wood carving, using pieces of wood he found on beaches, hikes or on his bike rides, then either donating them when finished or selling them at galleries in the area.

There is no service planned, but he will be missed by family and friends

Rex, you are so loved and will be so missed. I hope you´re in heaven with my brother, Peter playing tennis. I thank you for all the Sundays you went to church with us and I´m so grateful that you were baptized at Lake Coeur d´Alene Lake and I was there with you for that beautiful event and I know you´re in heaven with our savior. See ya there. You are one of the kindest men I know.
