Richard PURDY Obituary

On December 26 of 2022, Richard Purdy made the untimely journey to join his Savior in eternal bliss.

Richard, known as Dick, was born on February 22, 1939, in Bonners Ferry, Idaho to Dale and Margaret (Cooke) Purdy, the second of three boys. As a child, he moved from Idaho to Deer Park, WA, and lived most of his life there. He married Alice (Pug) Baker in 1958 and welcomed two daughters into his life, Gerildene Purdy White and Renee Purdy.

Dick served in the Army National Guard, was a founding member of the Deer Park Eagles, a member of the Steel Workers Union, the Clayton Historical Society, and numerous car clubs, where he drank lots of coffee and talked about many dream projects he would build. Dick spent the majority of his career at Kaiser Aluminum Mead Plant where he worked as a welder and licensed electrician. He also owned his own business, Purdy's Pump Service. Dick was a devoted member of St. Mary's Presentation, the local Catholic Church. He had many hobbies, such as motorcycling, mountain biking, fishing, hunting, snow skiing, and snowmobiling, to mention just a few. He taught his girls to waterski and swim at the family lake home.

Dick is preceded in death by his beloved wife Pug, parents, brothers William and Dennis, and baby girl Purdy. Dick is survived by his friend Terry Lavign; daughters Geri White and Renee Purdy; nieces Judy Gaber Ovenell (Gary) and Laurie Purdy and nephews Brian Purdy (Melissa) and Jerry Gaber. He is also survived by his grandchildren Dallas White, Jeremy White (Alissa), Mary Wilber (Ryan), Justin Fields (Britt), Brittany Fields (PJ), and multiple great-grandchildren.

Dick was a loving, honest, holy man who was a great "girl-dad", teaching us all that it meant to have Jesus "steer your boat" daily.

A Rosary service will be held in his honor at 6:00 pm on Friday, January 6, 2023, at St. Mary's Presentation (602 E. 6th St., Deer Park, WA 99006). A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 7, at the same location, with a reception to follow at the Deer Park Eagles, provided by the St. Mary's Presentation Altar Society. The family wishes, in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to the Deer Park Order of Eagles in Dick Purdy's name. To view and sign Dick's online guestbook please visit www.lauerfuneral.com.

Dick and my
Mom, Bev, were cousins. He sent my mom the kindest message when my Dad, Larry passed away. It provided comfort many afternoons for her before she joined my father. My heart goes out to Geri and Renee and families. We may not have stayed in close touch but you are often in my thoughts and prayers. Your Dad was an amazing man and I know you will miss him. May God give you comfort and strength my little cousins
