Robert DEFOE Obituary

January 17, 1943 - November 10, 2024

Spokane - Robert "Bob" DeFoe passed away peacefully on November 10, 2024, at the age of 81. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Evelyn "Sue" DeFoe; niece, Lori Castellanos; niece, Teri Etherton (Jon); nephew, David DeFoe (Patty); great-nephews, Nathan Diogo (partner Nichole), Matthew Diogo and Joshua Diogo (Savannah); great-nephews, Brandon Kelly, (Jessica), Tyler Castellanos, Donovan DiMico (Kaila); great-niece, Leah DiMico; great-great-nephews, Skyler, Kayden, Oscar, Ayden; and great-great-niece, Lila. He was preceded in death by grandparents on both sides; parents, Gordon and Betty DeFoe; and his beloved big brother, David DeFoe.

He had many stories about being with his grandma, Jesse Cook, at her house on Jackson, in Spokane, making cookies and going for walks and how she helped him with his schoolwork. She was so incredibly special to him.

Bob shared wonderful memories of his childhood living in Coeur d' Alene, playing trucks and cars, riding bikes and walking to the lake to play in the sand and swimming with his brother. Living in Spokane on Fairmont Place he had many wonderful neighbors, and family friends close by. He was always willing to help in their yards raking leaves and mowing.

He enjoyed all the good things in life; the cabin on Priest Lake, fishing with his mom and dad, taking boat rides, picking huckleberries, and of course watching the bears at the Priest Lake dump. He loved burgers and shakes, fried chicken legs, spaghetti, pizza and pecan pie. His favorite TV shows were Alf, Hee Haw, Lawrence Welk, Jackie Gleason, and the Brady Bunch.

Bob was always ready to have a party (PATY) for any reason, giving us all Hula lessons until we did it right!! He loved joking and poking fun and then would announce "I'm just razzing you!" He always gave us the news (in secret). Uncle Bob was the only person who really knew how to tuck you in at night.

He was a very kindhearted, special man. His family and so many others were blessed to have him in our lives. He was a loving son, brother and uncle and touched so many with his infectious laugh. He will be forever loved and remembered.

As Bob would say at the end of Thanksgiving Grace, with a very resounding voice, AMEN!!!

His family would like to say "Thank You" to the caregivers that touched his life over the years. You were all so appreciated.

A celebration of his life will be arranged at a later date.

To Sue and all of "Bobby's" family: I remember Bobby well as my "helper" whenever I was doing jobs and chores for my grandparents (The Porters), across the street on Fairmount Place. Bobby's place in my life was an invaluable lesson to a teenager in learning compassion, and understanding, and unconditional love--and a lot of patience.

If our lives are to be measured as the ripples from of a pebble dropped in a pond, Bobby surely made ripples in this heart of mine.
