Roger DIETTRICH Obituary

February 6, 1967 – November 6, 2023

Roger David Diettrich, 56, rocked out of this world and into heaven on November 6, 2023, just four weeks after being diagnosed with lung cancer. Roger was born in St. Paul, MN, on February 6, 1967, to David & Gerrie Diettrich. The family moved to Missoula, MT, in 1967 and Roger lived there until moving to Spokane, WA, in 2008. He graduated from Sentinel High School in 1985 and received an AAS degree in electronics technology from the University of Montana. While Roger's job was in IT, his passion was music. He played trombone, piano/keyboards, and bass, as well as dabbling in other instruments over time but he will be known forever for his talent on the guitar. Playing in various bands for 40+ years, he was an incredibly talented and humble guitar player, always working to perfect his craft.

Roger met the love of his life Jessica MacDonald at church in 2004 and they were just shy of celebrating their 18th anniversary at the time of his death. Roger & Jess were inseparable from the day they met and loved being together, whether running errands or traveling the world.

Roger had a deep faith in God and served Him in many ways, both in leading worship and in encouraging and serving others. Even through the hard times, his faith sustained him till the sun shone again.

Roger will be missed forever by his wife Jessica, parents Dave and Gerrie, siblings Brenda and Jeff (Jennifer), eight nieces and nephews, five great-nieces and great-nephews, his in-laws Mike and Janet MacDonald, and so many more, including his dog Atticus.

The family would like to thank Roger's medical teams for their love and support, especially in the last month of his life. Fresenius Home Dialysis – Dr. Vijay Reddy, Amy, Christina, Shelah, Raquel; Providence Pulmonology – Dr. Jiten Patel; Providence Internal Medicine – Dr. Robert Wigert; Cancer Care Northwest – Dr. Jessica Hellyer, Daylyn, Dawnelle; and finally the team at Providence Sacred Heart – Dr. Mike Moore, Jilda, Krista, and our team on 7S – Theresa, Becca, April, and Nancy. You took care of Roger as if he was your own and we love you forever for it.

A celebration of life will be held at Spokane Valley United Methodist Church, 115 N. Raymond Rd., Spokane Valley, 99206, on Sunday, December 3, 2023, at 2pm. Please wear your loudest Hawaiian shirts or your favorite Griz gear. Please email any favorite Roger stories/pictures to [email protected]. Roger will be rock´in in heaven now. He was a very kind soul and he impressed me by jumping off the stage, playing his guitar and dancing with his friends. Never missing a beat! Donna and Butch McGown will definitely miss him and his smile. RIP our friend.
