Sarah Marie Graham was born on May 14, 1991, and passed away unexpectedly on Monday, February 19, 2024, at the age of 32.
Sarah was the embodiment of what it means to be a selfless, compassionate person. Despite her physical disability, Sarah showed her empathy for all people in her exquisite smile, infectious laughter and excitement for all those around her. She grew up in a close-knit family, always ready to listen to the Scottish bagpipes, dancing away in her wheelchair and laughing hysterically with joy.
Sarah had an uncanny ability to see things from miles away. She loved to point out when she found a hot air balloon in the distance or spotted her favorite Seattle Mariner as they took the field. Sarah loved watching airplanes and helicopters and was fascinated with firetrucks, ambulances and police cars. She could even distinguish from the sound of the sirens which emergency vehicle it was.
A proud graduate of West Valley High School, Sarah learned how to develop her ability to communicate with others using technology and other resources around her. She enjoyed figuring it out on her own, eventually learning how to call family and friends through social media at random times throughout the day, just to laugh and smile in triumph that she had figured it out!
Sarah was a true sports fan. If it was a Washington state sports team, Sarah was a fan. A season ticket holder for over fourteen years for Gonzaga University women's basketball, she loved attending and cheering on her favorite players.
Sarah was fascinated with life, and she loved hers, no matter what her obstacles were. She relished in the success of those she loved, always cheering them on from the sideline, everyone's greatest fan. Her resilience, tenacity for life, and excitement for what's next will always be missed, a light gone much too soon. Her family and friends take comfort in knowing she is no longer held back by the burdens of this life but is instead dancing with those who have gone before her, singing at the top of her lungs, and running through those hills she always dreamt of.
Sarah is survived by her parents, mom Diane Brennan and dad Douglas Graham; sister, Leila Graves, brother-in-law, Andrew Graves, and nieces, Peyton, Jenna, and Sophia; her devoted caregivers, Kelli Gilden, Cecilia Benefiel, and Sarah and David Casteel. She is also survived by countless aunts, uncles, cousins, and devoted friends. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Philip and Kathleen Brennan, paternal grandparents, Jack and Dorothy Graham and two of her aunts, Mary Eshbach and Joan Graham.
Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at 2:00pm, at Hennessey Funeral Home in Spokane, WA, located at 2203 N. Division, Spokane, WA 99207.
If you wish to make a donation in Sarah's honor, she would suggest JOYA, formerly the Spokane Guilds School,
Shriner's Hospital, West Valley High School, or the Gonzaga University women's basketball program, all of which had a tremendous and lasting impact on her life.
