Shawn GURSKE Obituary

July 8, 1959 - February 10, 2025

Spokane - Shawn was born to Paul and Darlene Gurske, born and raised in Spokane. After high school, he joined the Air Force, which took him on a world adventure. When he returned from the service, he was hired on with the City of Spokane Water Department, where he had a lengthy career as a heavy equipment operator from which he retired.

He always enjoyed being with friends and his big brother, anything from hockey to softball, to riding dirt bikes, camping, and collecting rocks. He had a green thumb and enjoyed landscaping. But his favorite pastime was spending time with his kids. No matter what his kids and grandkids had going on, he was there cheering them on.

Shawn is survived by his father, Paul (loving wife, Peggy); mother, Darlene; daughter, Leah Gurske-Hill (husband, Dan, son, Elijah, daughter, Kalli); son, C.J. Gurske (daughter, Vivian); and his brother, Alan (wife, Diane); along with cousins, nieces, and nephews.

We will be holding a celebration of life March 2, 2025, at 2pm, at the Shriners Event Center, 7217 W. Westbow Blvd., Spokane, WA 99224.

So sorry to hear about Shawn. He was one of my best friends in high school.

Shawn and I were a couple for awhile during our Shaw Jr. High and Rogers High School days. Nothing serious, just hung out together. I always wondered what happened to the brown curly headed kid.
