Sheila WHISLER Obituary

WHISLER,
Sheila

Sheila Whisler's goal in life was to serve her Jesus, however and whenever possible. On June 21 at 1:35 p.m., leaving family members who surrounded her, she went to stand before her King. She was born in Mineral, Washington to Wilson and Rebecca Francis on August 9, 1939. She had three siblings, Joan, Jimmy, and Marty. Later, her family moved to Aberdeen where she graduated from Weatherwax High School and Grays Harbor Community College.

She subsequently left Aberdeen to attend Central Washington University. While there, she met her best friend and husband Don Whisler. They married in their senior year of college. They had four children, Dean of Spokane, Denise Russell, (Larry) of Chattaroy, Deanne Watson of Chattaroy, and David from Canal-Fulton, Ohio. She is also survived by three granddaughters, Taryn, living in Spokane, Devyn in Seattle, and Elisa Eve from Canal-Fulton, Ohio.

She taught for one year and then stayed at home for a number of years to raise her family. Attending Whitworth University she completed her post-graduate work to become an administrator at the junior-high level. She spent 20 years in education, some teaching, some as vice-principal, and lastly as principal at Riverside School District.

Sheila has been an active member of Turning Point Open Bible Church for more than 30 years. She served as director/facilitator for an intensive bible study class for many years. She served in many ways at the church. She served for one term on the elder board. She was a founding member of Crisis Pregnancy Center now known as Life Sercvices. She was also a board member at Northwest Christian Schools for a number of years. Whenever the Lord called, she said, "here am I Lord." She was a member of the Giddeon Women's Auxiliary group and always had a New-Testament bible in her purse to share.

Visitation will be at Hazen & Jeager Funeral Home, 1306 Monroe Street, Wednesday, June 28, 2017 from 2 - 6 p.m. Burial will take place at Washington State Veterans Cemetery at 21702 W. Espanola Rd., Medical Lake, WA at 9:45 a.m. on June 29. Following this will be a memorial service at Turning Point Open Bible at 11:00 a.m at 11911 N. Division. She served her King and left a lasting legacy that touched and impacted many. She went to hear, "Well done, good and faithful servant. Enter into your reward."

Although I just met Sheila one time when she came with Don to visit their son Dean, she was the real deal. Although Don, Dean, and their family are mourning her death, she is standing in the presence of her King, and He has told her, "Well done, good and faithful servant. Enter into your reward." May His Spirit comfort her family here on earth until they are reunited again for all of eternity.

Truly a great lady in every way! She had the vision to start a Crisis Pregnancy Center here in Spokane over 26 years ago. Today that ministry is called Life Services I-Choice, and it serves thousands of women and their families every single year. There are literally ten of thousands of children born today (from newborn to 26-years-old) because of her clear calling from God and her passion. Thank you Sheila! You will be greatly missed!
