Shirli HALEY Obituary

Spokane - Shirli Jean Haley departed the earth on December 19, 2023. She was born in South Dakota on April 19, 1931, to Bertha and James Watson. The family migrated west and settled in Washington State, where she graduated from Tekoa High School.

Shirli worked as an executive secretary at Boeing during the late 1950s and early 1960s. During this time, she lived in Seattle with her husband, Terry Joseph Haley, and their three children.

After the family moved north from Seattle to the Edmonds area, Shirli became a full-time mother. She also took classes at the University of Washington with a focus on anthropology. Later in life, Shirli and Terry built their dream home on Anderson Island, where she enjoyed socializing and volunteering in the small community.

A dedicated reader, she perused everything from the morning newspaper to the latest bestseller. She also loved gardening, hiking the Cascade Mountains, needlework, and the culinary arts.

Shirli moved to Spokane to be near her daughters in the early 2000s. There, she joined a seniors' writing group, discovering not only her voice but also many kindred spirits.

Shirli leaves behind her two daughters, Randee Blume (Robert) and Lynne Haley; five grandchildren, Zachary Blume, Aleisha Haley, Abbey (Blume) Gibson, Cleo (Slaughter) Joyce and Aidan Slaughter; as well as six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Terry; son, Timothy Haley; and grandson, Niles Slaughter.

At her prior request, there will be no service.
