Steve Hatcher Obituary

November 5, 1957 - August 5, 2015 Steve Neil Hatcher, 57 of Spokane Valley, WA died suddenly on August 5, 2015. Born on November 5, 1957 to Ron and Hazel Hatcher, Steve graduated from Central Valley High School passionate in sports. In 1980 Steve joined the Spokane Valley Fire Department and in his own words he never worked a day in his life. He served as a paramedic for more than 20 years and was proudly promoted to Captain on July 1, 2009. One year after meeting the love of his life, Steve proposed to Mindy leading to 35 years of living every moment to its fullest. Together they owned Awards, Etc. in Post Falls, ID. They were blessed with two beautiful daughters, Marissa and Breanne (Noodles). Coaching his girls' soccer teams gave him the opportunity to play a larger role in their lives. He loved hunting (fanatical), scuba diving, four wheeling, time at the lake, and ice cold root beer. Steve was the rope that tied our family together and will be forever missed. Steve is survived by his wife Mindy, daughters Marissa Fuher (Corey), Breanne Hatcher, parents Ron and Hazel Hatcher, sister Linda Thompson (Richard), brother Lyle Hatcher (Maria), family in-laws Rovella Vawter, Doug Vawter (Cheri), Tim Vawter (Barb), Wendy May (Kimbo) along with numerous nieces and nephews. A service will be held on Friday, August 14 at 11:00 AM at the Church of the Nazarene, 15515 E 20th Ave, Spokane Valley, WA 99037. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. PO Box 8249 Missoula, MT 59807.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Hatcher family. I hope that his family will find peace knowing that Steve was thought of highly by so many in the community whose lives he touched. Although I did not know Steve personally, I heard many wonderful stories about him from his sister, Linda Hatcher Thompson. Keep the good memories forever, and blessings to all of you.

Steve was my soccer coach many years ago. He was always such a great role model and may have been one of the only positive male influences I had growing up. He was a great man who risked his safety everyday helping those in need. Steve touched the lives of so many people I just hope he knew how incredible that is and how appreciative I know I am to have had him to look up to as a child. My thoughts are with his family.

I am very sorry to have heard of Steve's passing. He excelled at many things in life; a leader and outstanding athlete being just two of his many qualities. Most importantly he was solid and personable, someone you could count on, just an all around good guy. Prayers and condolences to his entire family.

My dad, Bill Fisher, and Steve's dad Ron, decided Steve and I should be friends. They were watching us compete at a Greenacres-North Pines track meet in about 1973. Our fathers were right; we became friends when we played B Squad football for Central Valley that fall. Steve was quarterback and I was a wide receiver. Whenever Steve didn't have a girlfriend, we were inseparable - the rest of the time, well...

Steve was the best athlete in the CVHS class of 1976 (sorry Dennis Dieni and Gary Ankerson, just my opinion), and competed with the best of them. And he excelled in woodshop. I wouldn't be surprised if the headboard he made in Jay Rydell's class is still in use. The last time we spoke (many years ago) he told me about the display cases he made for Awards, Etc.

Steve was a good man and a good friend. Mindy, Breanne, Marissa, Ron, Hazel, and Lyle, you're in my prayers.

Lyle, along with your Mother, Hazel and father, Ron, I extend my sincere condolences. I have never met your brother, Lyle, but you and your dad have been a good part of my life. I'm very sorry for your loss. Laura (Bischoff) Hougen

Steve and I met in grade school at Progress Elementary Grade School, and we were on the 5th grade safety patrol team together. We continued on through out Junior High and High School together. One night in 1998 my husband and I were at Pete's Pizza in Greenacres, and Steve walked in and he sat next to us. We had the conversion about when we were in the 6th grade and how I beat him and all the boys in my P.E. class in the running relay races. We also talked about Steve being my niece Cheree Walser's soccer coach, and how he loved to coach my niece, and his daughter. I saw Steve again in 2002, when he brought the Valley Fire Truck to my daycare and how he let the kids crawl into the big truck to check it out. I send my condolences and prayers to the family for your loss. He will greatly be missed. Debbie (Kline) Cramer.
