Steven NEUMILLER Obituary

NEUMILLER, Steven Robert
(Age 66)

My dad, Steven Robert Neumiller, was a great man. Born in Sommers, Alabama, he lived there for most of his childhood years. In 1967, he graduated from Foley High School, in Foley, Alabama. One helluva pitcher, he played for the Somers Baseball team, before moving to Madison, Wisconsin to pursue his Bachelor's Degree in Political Science, Philosophy, and English. He graduated in 1971, with distinction. he then whent on to attain his Master of Arts in Clinical and Experimental Psychology at the University of West Florida, in Pensacola, in 1976. After the completion of his Master's Degree, he worked in the rural Central Appalachian Region for almost nine years, in federally funded programs, delivering counseling, career and education planning services to disadvantaged adolescents and adults. In 1985, he moved to Casper, Wyoming, working as a counselor at Casper College.
Throughout those years after college, he dedicated himself to helping many adolescents and adults better themselves and their lives.
In 1990, he relocated to Spokane, Washington with his wife, Kimberly, step-daughter, Lauren, and three-month-old daughter, Claire. He spent the remainder of his life in Spokane. While here, Steve established Inland Northwest Proposal Development, in 1992. His business focused on human services planning, program development, grant writing and development, and evaluation of the programs that were funded by his grants. He made a huge impact on the community in Spokane. Within his grant writing and evaluation, he has worked with many organizations: Spokane Regional Health District, REACH, Center of Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT), Spokane County Juvenile Detention Center, Goodwill, and many more. While writing grants, he enabled funding to be awarded to thses organizations to help people in need in the Spokane area.
In 1998, he had a son, Nathan, with his second wife. Two years later, came second daughter, Emma.
He retired from grant writing and his business in 2014.
The last few years of his life were spent loving his granddaughters, Madilyn (born in 2011) and Junipyr (born in 2014). They were the twinkles in his eyes.
I remember when I was little, my dad used to push me in the running stroller while he ran -- something he loved to do. He even ran several marathons, including the New York City and Boston marathons. He also ran Bloomsday almost every year he lived in Spokane. When my first daughter Madilyn was born, he began running with her as well. While running with Madi, on August 3rd, Steven suffered a cardiac arrest. He died the next day.
He is survived by mother Rita (Sinnen) Neumiller; brothers, Jim and David Neumiller; daughter Claire Neumiller (26), son, Nathan Neumiller (17), daughter, Emma Neumiller (15); and granddaughters, Madilyn (4) and Junipyr (2).

My dad was a great man. As a young adult, In Wisconsin, he stood up for his beliefs and protested the Vietnam War. As a young man, he counseled and advised many people, furthering their education and their lives. In his middle years, he wrote countless grants, helping numerous organizations in Spokane. In many cases, he also evaluated those grants, making sure the money was used exactly how the organization said it would be when the grant was funded.

Throughout my entire life, I always knew one constant: my dad would "always love me, no matter what."
He died doing what he loved, with a little girl he loved more than anything.
He will be missed beyond words.
