1940-2025
Thomas R. Dupler Jr., known affectionately as Tom, a beloved husband, dad, papa, uncle, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 14, 2025, at the age of 85. Born on February 21, 1940, Tom lived a life rich with work, travel, military service, and an unparalleled knack for friendship, building connections from the mainland's Pacific Northwest to the Hawaiian Islands and down into the bayou.
Tom proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy. This spirit of commitment and adventure carried into his civilian life. Tom was a true man of the road, having spent an impressive 42 years as a professional trucker, a career that cemented his deep affection for the trucking industry. His call sign on the airwaves was unforgettable: Scotch and Soda. Later in life, he took on the role of foreman at the Vista Del Ray Ranch.
He was a long-time resident of Hillyard, where he created many memories and strong ties over the years. Beyond his professional endeavors, Tom was a man who truly loved life and the great outdoors. He enjoyed the tranquility of fishing and the pursuit of hunting. He had a great enthusiasm for motorcycles, finding freedom and joy on two wheels, and enjoyed RVing and exploring new places. Tom was a devoted fan of country music, with a special place in his heart for the legendary Merle Haggard. He also carried a great love for rodeos, especially the National Finals Rodeo; and the warm, welcoming spirit of Kauai, where his soul was at peace.
Tom's most defining trait was his genuine, outgoing nature. It's often said that Tom never met a stranger who didn't become his friend. He had a remarkable ability to strike up a conversation with anyone, anywhere, regardless of the situation, making fast friends across the country and in every walk of life.
Tom's greatest pride was his large and loving family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Alice. His memory will be cherished by the countless lives he touched within the extensive Dupler family and the interconnected Hawley, Scott, Orndorff, Ruegsegger, Schlotter, Hoffman, Best, Housewright, Sneyd, Mahar, and Dalton families. We will always treasure his beloved family and friends in Washington, Kauai, Florida, and in Louisiana.
His legacy lives on in the kindness, humor, and welcoming spirit he instilled in his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Tom will be profoundly missed, but the vast network of people he befriended ensures his story will be told for generations to come.
A service to celebrate Tom's life will be on October 25, 2025, at his home around 3:00pm. To view and Sign Tom's online guestbook please visit
