Virginia BROWN Obituary

December 14, 1925 - October 15, 2025

Newport - Virginia Brown passed from this world on October 15, 2025, she was two months from reaching her 100th birthday.

Virginia was born on December 14, 1925, to Walter and Mary Margaret Gunn, joining her older brother Walter and twin sister Barbara. The family was raised on the south hill in Spokane. Virginia graduated from Lewis and Clark High School.

It was shortly after graduation that she met her future husband Raymond who was stationed at Farragut Naval Training Station. Virginia waited for Ray to return from his four-year commitment to the Navy and his theater of the South Pacific during World War II. Shortly after his return Virginia and Ray married and moved to the Seattle area for Ray to complete his education that was interrupted by World War ll. Virginia attended the University of Washington while Ray was finishing his degrees.

They moved to Quincy Washington. Ray was a teacher and coach while Virginia was busy tending to their children Sharon born 1953 and Patrick born 1955. They moved to Newport Washington in 1960 where Ray was the high school principal. Their third child Tim was born in 1961.

Virginia completed her education degree at Eastern Washington State College and embarked on her own teaching career spent in its entirety at Priest River Elementary from 1968 until her retirement in 1987. She touched countless student lives during her tenure as a math and science teacher.

Following her retirement after Ray's passing in 1985, Virginia devoted many hours to the Alter Society at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Newport. She spent her time and talents sewing and quilting with the purpose of providing blankets to meet the needs of St. Anthony's charities. She was involved in many card groups. She loved bridge! She also made time to travel extensively visiting the Holy Lands and several religious sites through Europe, the UK and Ireland.

Virginia left a lasting legacy in Newport and Priest River. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends which she held so dear.

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband Raymond, her parents, her brother Walter and her twin sister Barbara. Virginia is survived by her children Sharon Linquist, Pat Brown, and Tim Brown (Kris) Her grandchildren Kevin Linquist, Tim Linquist (Rachel), Ryan Linquist, Matt Brown (Zoe), Michael Brown (Jordan), and great grandchildren Braeden and Riley Linquist.

At Virginia's request, there will be no public services, rather a private family graveside service in Newport. In Lieu of flowers, any memorials may be directed to the Hospitality House in Newport, WA, at 216 S. Washington St. 99156, to aid in their operations.

Rusty & Jennifer

October 26, 2025

Mrs. Brown was a wonderful lady that I am happy I got to know through her son "Timmy". She was always so put together, well spoken & upmost the epitome of being a gentle lady. Rusty & I had the privilege of sitting in her living room hearing fun stories of her early days meeting her husband Ray at Farragut & a few fun stories of Tim (my cousin in law) as well. She will be missed by all of us. Rest well sweet Virginia.
