Virginia GJELVIK Obituary

Virginia Mae Gjelvik (Abbott) passed away peacefully on April 3, 2024, at Sunrise Assisted Living in St. Louis, MO, with family by her side. Virginia was born January 7, 1928, in St. Maries, ID, to Martin and Ruth Abbott. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband Edgar; brothers, Royal, Howard, Ernie, and Lowell; and her sister, Lillian (Janson). Virginia is survived by her sister, Irene (Charbonneau); daughter, Ann; son, Eric (Darlene); grandchildren, Noah and Ethan; and many other cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Virginia grew up in Deer Park, graduating from High School in 1945. She married Edgar Gjelvik in 1947 and settled in Spokane Valley where she raised her family. Virginia worked many years starting in high school as a bookkeeper for the Deer Park Pine Lumber Mill and later worked at Anderson Peretti. She was an active volunteer throughout her life for the schools her children attended and Christ Lutheran Church in Spokane Valley.

Virginia was a smart and talented gift from God who was loved dearly by her family and friends. She was kind and loving to all who knew her and always thought of others before herself. She loved gardening, painting, country and gospel music, and studying her Bible. She was devoted to her children and grandchildren who always knew she loved and supported them.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 13th, at 11am at Faith Lutheran Church (212 S. Weber Rd., Deer Park, WA 99006). Special thanks to Sunrise Assisted Living for all the wonderful love and care they provided.
