Wesley ACKERMAN Obituary

Wesley "Wes" Ackerman, age 89, passed away the morning of November 12, 2024, as the result of a tragic accident.

Wes was the 6th child born to Emilia and Adam Ackerman in Bison, South Dakota, May 7, 1935, and moved to Spokane in 1937. Wes attended Grant Grade School and Lewis and Clark High. Outside of class, he took pride in his first job delivering papers for both the Spokesman-Review and the Chronicle. Wes was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1957. Stationed in Berlin, Germany, he notably guarded the cell of Reichsleiter Rudolf Hess at Spandau Prison. After 2 years of service, he returned home and fell in love with his childhood friend Peggy Muir. The pair were wed in 1960 and spent 64 happy years together. Wes loved hard work and held numerous occupations including automotive mechanics, his own janitorial service company, and maintenance for The Energy Pavilion during Expo '74. He dedicated 20 years to Washington Water Power Company and only retired due to the progressive loss of his eyesight. Wes faithfully attended Manito United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy; children, Bonnie Miller, Thomas Wesley, and Wendy (James) Bahn; grandchildren, Candice (Dustin) Kamien, Cassidy Miller, Wesley (Melanie) Bahn, Keeley (Kael) Bahn-Knight, Anna Bahn; and great-grandchildren, Ocean, River, and Bear Kamien; along with numerous nieces and nephews he loved dearly.

Funeral services will be held Monday, November 18, 2024, at 1:00 pm at Manito UMC, 3220 S. Grand Blvd. His family welcomes all who knew Wes to celebrate the life of this kind, joyful, and loving man.

Peggy and family, Thank you for your call after Wes passed and you found that Margie had just passed also! Doing your wedding photos over 64 years ago, plus the joy celebrating your 50th and 62nd anniversaries (darn Covid!), I feel like a part of the family. It is amazing how many times our paths have crossed over the years! Know that you and your family will remain in my prayers! Sorry that I was unable to be there to celebrate Wes' life with you today. Do keep in touch as we walk this lonesome path!
