Wilma Harshman Obituary

HARSHMAN, Wilma June (Butte)
June 15, 1925 -
November 21, 2010

Wilma June Harshman, 85, died of natural causes on Sunday, November 21, 2010, at her home in Ferndale, Washington.
Born to Frederick A. Butte and Mary Ellen Branson Butte, she grew up on a homestead in Belknap, Montana, and attended North Central High School in Spokane and Thompson Falls High School in Thompson Falls, Montana, where she graduated at age 16.
During WWII she worked in the war effort in San Francisco and then at the Spokane Army Air Depot at Fairchild Air Force Base inspecting repairs to aircraft damaged in the Pacific Theater. Afterward, she worked as a licensed beautician until her marriage to Roy Gerald Harshman on July 1, 1948. They lived at 1648 E. Providence in Spokane for 38 years.
As the mother of four daughters, she devoted thousands of hours to Girl Scouting over a period of 20 years as a troop leader and neighborhood chairman. She was also a dedicated school volunteer. She loved dancing, was a gardening enthusiast, and was a steadfast fan of the Seattle Mariners. A life-long bookworm, she often read more than a book a week. She took great delight in following the lives of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her sister, Beverly Eileen LaFontaine, Spokane Valley, Washington; her brother, Paul Beaudreau (Marilyn) Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; and her children, Sally E. Harshman Emoto, Stephenville, Texas, Stacie Harshman Lee and Craig W. Lee, Ferndale, Washington, Sheila G. Harshman White and Paul A. White, Herndon, Virginia, and Sharon A. Harshman Peterson and Greg M. Peterson, Oregon City, Oregon.
Her grandchildren are Lt. Col. Todd G. Emoto, U.S. Army and Katrina L. Hermann Emoto, Spanaway, Washington, Jason H. Emoto and Dawna L. Nishimura Emoto, Honolulu, Hawaii, Michaela H. Lee, Tacoma, Washington, Seth A. White, Washington D.C., and Connor P. White, Herndon, Virginia. Great-grandchildren are Aaron M. Emoto and Mika S. Emoto, Honolulu, and Lilliana R. Emoto, Spanaway. She will be greatly missed by all.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy (1997); and her sisters, Ruby Eleanora Irvine (2004), Opal Marie Matthews (1996), Hazel Louella Vincent (1972), and Mildred Caroline Butte (1920).
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM, on Monday, December 27 at Moles Funeral Home in Ferndale, Washington. A graveside service is planned for the spring at Spokane Memorial Gardens. Family contact is Stacie Lee, 360-380-2141.
