Andrew Fetsch Obituary

ANDREW J. FETSCH "ANDY" ST. JOHN, IN
Andrew J. "Andy" Fetsch, age 67, of St. John, IN passed away Tuesday, November 12, 2013 due to complications of Parkinson's Disease. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Marlies; two sons: Andrew F. "Drew" (Erin) Fetsch of Sunnyvale, CA and Adam C. (Jill) Fetsch of Charleston, SC; four grandchildren: Andrew, Julian, Zoey, and Ella Fetsch; brother, William B. (Robin) Fetsch of Falls Church, VA; brother- in-law, Gunther (Uta) Pietsch of Germany; nephews: Derek (Jennifer) Fetsch, Chris (Alison) Fetsch, and Stephen (Cathy) Dull; nieces: Katy Fetsch, Mary Alice (Ben) Palmer, and Diane (Phil) Mimnaugh. Andy was preceded in death by his father, Andrew Fetsch, Sr.; his mother, Mary E. Fetsch; and his sister, Mary Dull. Andy was born on December 27, 1945 in East Chicago, IN, where he grew up. He attended St. Mary's School. As a teenager, his first job was at an East Chicago auto body shop. Andy graduated from Bishop Noll High School in 1967. At Noll, he was a member of the National Honor Society and a National Merit Semi-Finalist. After graduation, he headed off to Purdue University in West Lafayette. Except for the summer between his freshman and sophomore years at Purdue, spent in Hanover, Germany - where he met Marlies Pietsch, his future wife - he worked most summers at Inland Steel. Andy earned his Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Management in 1967. After teaching Mathematics at Morton Middle School in Hammond for several years, Andy decided on a career in the law. He and wife Marlies moved to Denver, CO where he earned his law degree from the University of Denver. Andy was a partner at the Hammond law firm, Beckman, Kelly and Smith, where he specialized in Corporate Law and Elder Care for 30 years. Andy and his wife loved traveling throughout the United States and Europe. Family was everything to Andy, who enjoyed camping, backpacking in Colorado, gardening, and cross-country bicycle rides. At home, he was an enthusiastic model railroader. Andy and Marlies moved from Hammond to St. John just three years ago. Visitation will take place Sunday, November 17, 2013 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at the Elmwood Funeral Chapel, 11300 W. 97th Lane (1/2 block west of U.S. 41/Wicker Ave. at 97th St.), St. John. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Rush University Medical Research Center for Parkinson's Disease, 1700 W. Van Buren St., Suite 250, Chicago, IL 60612.
