News Death Notice

CONLEY, Dixie Jeanne 82, of Springfield, died Monday evening, January 31, 2011 in her residence following several months of failing health. She was born in Springfield on March 10, 1928 the daughter of Wayne Edward and Wilma May (Wick) Simmons. Dixie was self employed for over twenty years as owner of Dixie's Top Shop making canvas covers and convertible tops for all kinds of boats. She was also the payroll secretary for Conley Brothers Inc. for many years. She loved fishing, mushroom hunting, bowling, and NASCAR, especially the Earnhardts. She is survived by her husband of nearly 65 years, David Conley; five children, David Conley II of Springfield, Stephanie Mathers of Las Vegas, Pete Conley and his wife, Angie of Springfield, Jake Conley and his wife, Terrie of St. Paris, and George Conley of Springfield; eight grandchildren, David (Pam) Conley III, Dewey Conley, Dixie Bougher, Brad Conley, Jill Conley, Peter (Tracy) Conley, Shelby Weller, and Kara Conley; and nine great grandchildren, David IV, Estefany, Arthur, Lydia, Ethan, Chloe, Isaac, Daniel, and Isabelle. Also surviving are two sisters, Hazel (Duke) Bruney of New Carlisle and Patty Taylor of Florida, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Joann Miller and Dorothy Hildebrand; and a brother, Jim Simmons. At Dixie's request, no services will be observed. Memorial contributions may be made in Dixie's memory to Community Mercy Hospice, 444 W. Harding Rd., Springfield, Ohio 45504. The LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME is serving the family.
