Edward STEINER Obituary

News Death Notice

STEINER, Edward My name is Edward Joseph Steiner, but I'm better known as "Big Ed." My parents are Adam Nicolas Steiner and Violet Dorothy (Evilsizor) Steiner. I was born August 11, 1950 in Springfield and died on November 26, 2015 surrounded by family. I graduated from Springfield South High School in 1968 with a wonderful bunch of classmates and friends. I received a B.A. from Central State and a Master's Degree in Education Administration from Wright State University. I taught health and physical education for most of my 41 years in education. I retired from Springfield City Schools in 1999 and from London/Madison Correctional in 2010. I was also a Board member for Northeastern Local Schools, serving two terms and President on NCOA Board for five years. I am survived by my mom Dorothy; my brother Nick; my wife Linda (Neidhart); my sons Josh (Crystal) Steiner and Dana Steiner; step-son Jasen (Lindsey) Dodds; step-daughter Julie (Adam) Billet. I have five precious grandchildren Aaron, Quentin and Aurora Steiner, Linley Dodds and Bentley Billet. I have many more fantastic family members, in-laws and friends. The most important fact about me is that I am a born again Christian and a member of First Christian Church. I believe in Jesus Christ and God has been with me throughout my life, as well as my cancer battle. I've always been an OSU fan and I loved traveling, especially to my place in Florida. I called it "camp" and the weather was always warm, beautiful and I didn't see snow. God blessed me with many more great friends and there is where I want my ashes scattered in the Gulf. I want to thank all my family, friends, doctors, nurses, hospice staff, Forest Glen staff and Church staff for all the care, love, encouragement and prayers given to me. Please remember me and I'll see all who are saved in Heaven one day. Memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church or your favorite charity. My body will be cremated but a memorial service to celebrate my life will be Tuesday at 11:00 AM in First Christian Church with a gathering of family and friends beginning one hour prior to the start of services. Arrangements have been entrusted to the RICHARDS, RAFF & DUNBAR MEMORIAL HOME. Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.richardsraffanddunbar.com

Dearest Mr. STEINER and family, You are one of a kind! I taught school with you at Emerson.I was a fifth grade teacher. As you and anyone that taught at Emerson knew it was a very difficult teaching situation. The children had many problems and needed the love of a true caring teacher ...You were one of the best physical education teachers in Springfield City Schools. You were GOD sent to the children at Emerson...Most children that attended did not have a
father figure in their life...or discipline....THEY LOVED YOU..AND YOU WERE AN EXAMPLE OF A GOOD MAN.
Your classes were so organized!.By the way you taught, it was more than apparent your love for children...You reached their hearts...They were taught many skills in your class. Some were:
self control, self respect, discipline, being a team player, never giving up
(fortitude), and human kindness by the way you acted towards them....YOU LOVED THEM AND THEY LOVED YOU!
YOU WERE THE BEST! I have seen it all! I retired after 36 years in Springfield City Schools and now currently 15 more years of substituting in Columbus City Schools...I do know what I am talking about and have observed many teachers! I
SALUTE YOU, ED STEINER, AND WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER YOU!

To All -
I went to school with Ed when Franklin Junior High opened in 1962 through our first year at South High before I moved to the coast and never got to see him again. Ed was always a friend to all, an enemy to none. A half century has come and gone, but I still see his massive smile and barrel chest walking the halls of Franklin Junior High going to class. He will be missed be all of us greatly.

To the Family and Friends of Ed Steiner,
I do not have the words to express the sadness that I felt when I heard that Ed had passed. You will be greatly missed by all!!! I worked with him for years at Emerson Elementary School, Springfield, Ohio, where I taught grade 5, and he was the physical education teacher.... I respected and admired him greatly! HE LOVED THE STUDENTS, AND TRIED HIS ABSOLUTE BEST TO DEVELOP THE TRUE POTENTIAL IN EACH AND EVERY STUDENT!!!! Yes, he was a very skilled physical education teacher. But, he had patience, true love for the students, and was a role model. Most of the children did not have fathers living in their homes...In some cases, Ed was the only positive male figure that they would come in contact with... Ed was so honorable! He taught them LIFE SKILLS,..SENSE OF FAIRNESS,.. SELF DISCIPLINE,..and much more...HE JUST PLAIN CARED!!!!... IT DID NOT MATTER THE COLOR OF YOUR SKIN, OR HOW POOR YOU WERE,... OR HOW UNKEPT YOUR CLOTHES AND PHYSICAL APPEARANCE WAS..OR HOW BACKWARDS YOUR VIEWS OF LIFE WERE...Ed just loved you and wanted the best for you...His gym classes were fun, structured and always in order! He could settle fights and arguments like no other teacher. Also, Ed had a sense of humor. The students love him! After he retired from Springfield City School, Springfield,Oh, I heard that he was working for a nearby prison... I thought...WOW, they have the BEST PERSON FOR THE JOB!.. ...When I read his obituary...I FINALLY, REALIZED WHY ED WAS SUCH A WONDERFUL PERSON!!!! *** "MR. ED. STEINER WAS A MAN OF GOD!!!!!!" HE SHOWED IT IN HIS DAILY LIVING AND ACTIONS!... My deepest sympathy to your family!!!

Sorry to hear of your loss of Ed, Linda. He was a very good man. I got to know Ed in a variety of ways; he was a mentor to me during my early years of teaching, a colleague in my middle years, and most importantly he was my friend. My life has been enriched by having had Ed be a part of it. May you rest in peace my friend.

Linda, may God provide you comfort and peace as you move through the grieving process.

So sorry to hear of Mr. Steiner's passing. When he was my teacher, he tried to be so stern and mean and wanted us to be scared of him....I was lol. As an adult, I came in contact with him again through Tupperware and we would talk and laugh about what was his early teaching days and my childhood school days. He really was a big ole teddy bear and I know he will truly be missed. RIH Mr Steiner

Big Ed was my PE & Health teacher at Franklin Jr. High in early 70s and I always enjoyed seeing and talking with him in the years that followed, usually at a South game. Ed always had a smile and was glad to see you and asked how you were doing. I also posted a photo of him that was taken in 2012, the last time I saw him, and it was at the funeral of one of my classmates - because Ed remembered the kids he taught. Rest well with your Lord Ed.
