He was born on March 16, 1937 in Springfield, the son of Raymond D. and Elizabeth (Stewart) Standard. Jim retired from Kelsey Hayes in 1995 after forty years of service and immediately went into real estate working with Link-Hellmuth for fifteen years. He was a member of the North Hampton Lions Club, the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (serving as President), the Board of Realtors, and many other community organizations. Jim was a very active member of the Maiden Lane Church of God where he faithfully served and chaired the Building Committee, Sunday School teacher, visitation ministry, and several other roles. He loved his Lord and the Church. Jim is survived and will be missed by his wife of 32 years, Joyce (Sayers) Standard, four daughters and sons-in-law: Dea and Jim Mihaly of Springfield, Kimberly and Wayne Bryant of Florida, Vicki and Keith Ratliff of North Carolina, and Pam Shafer of Indiana; one son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Kim Shafer of Springfield, seven grandchildren: Heather (Jeremy) Leifheit, Tyler Ratliff, Michael (Nicole) Eichhorn, Ryan (Liz) Shafer, Jacob Gullett, Drew Ratliff, and Paul Shafer; three great grandchildren: Gracie, J.D., and Natalie; one sister, Vera Jean Brewer of Springfield, several nieces and nephews, and his dog, "Lucy". He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Earl "Sonny" Standard. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Monday, December 23, 2013 from 12-2:00 p.m. in the Maiden Lane Church of God, 1201 Maiden Lane, Springfield. A celebration of his life and ministry will begin at 2:00 p.m. following the visitation with Pastor Mark Martin officiating. Burial will be in the Ferncliff Cemetery.
